of straight wear my Resonance was out of resonance today! A very impressive feat of engineering but still my heart missed a beat when I saw the seconds hands two seconds apart! It gained about 15 seconds during those not quite three weeks. What is your experience - how long does the watch keep in synchrony?

Hi Andreas,

Interestingly, I was about to ask the same question of other Resonance owners. You beat me to it! From experience, the two second hands go out of sync in about 3 weeks, by about 1 second. Then I'll have to reset it. The gain of 1 minute takes about 2 months, which indeed is very impressive.

... belated congratulations, Andreas, on finding and acquiring the piece that you have been so set on having. That's the perfect combination - but you would expect that comment, wouldn't you? ;-)   Is it all that you hoped and expected it would be?

... yes, it is all I hoped for! It is so satisfying on so many levels, but most of all I am stil blown away by the fact that human ingenuity can keep these gears in perfect harmony for weeks without a material link (OK, other than the vibrations of the base plate). It is magic, and poetry and science all rolled in one. It is also nice to be for now free of the disease - no straying thoughts and looks to other watches.

I would love to see a more technical explanation of the phenomenon utilized by the watch.  If I recall correctly, resonance in physics is generally a state of oscillation where control is lost; for example when an oscillator is pumped at or near its own natural frequency, it's behavior becomes very wild.  I suspect that the Resonance mechanism is actually evidencing a "mutual interaction" of sorts between the two oscillators that is naturally self-correcting.  However, the detailed mechanics of this are hard to locate so any technical insights by anyone with more information would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. Congratulations on your new acquisition - it's on my short list as well but I've noted that the short list is actually fairly long now.  I would like to see the new model with red font on the analog dial as I think this makes it considerably more attractive than the all-black prototype of the same and a comparison to the "classic" version would be interesting to have.  In any case, congratulations on a great watch.
