
But all the quartz - the mechanical ones are a different story - clocks I have seen, even from top tier "manufacture" have similarly unimpressive insides. I think one reason for this is the lack of availability of nicely finished quartz alarm clock movements. But like you said it looks good on the outside.

at least at the same price range as the clock Oliver posted. I have seen high-end, unique clocks by Cartier at auction, but I do not believe mechanical desk clocks are part of the regular collection. I'll find out.

All have 8 day hand wind mechanical movements. As you can see they are distinctly more elaborate than the quartz clocks.
