Need some wisdom around the SBGM221 GMT Grand Seiko
Hello all - My tastes historically haven't tended towards Seiko, however, in the past couple of years I've been looking more closely at the brand overall and have become increasingly more interested. I picked up a couple of modest Seiko's (Presage and World Time) to date, but have yet to make the jump to Grand Seiko. I've been somewhat smitten with the SBGM221 automatic GMT with its cream dial and blued GMT hand since I first saw it a couple of years ago. I was inches away from picking one up this past weekend while visiting a GS boutique on vacation, but I was struggling to pull the trigger at $4,600 (USD). I'm struggling a little because the movement itself just isn't all that attractive. I know that's a fairly silly thing given the movement is accurate, hand-assembled and a workhorse; but I'd like to hear from others about their thoughts on the values of the SBGM221 model. It is not a high-beat, nor spring drive model so it's not really GS's most interesting movement. I'm interested to know if folks think the value is there at MSRP price (obviously I can find a used one on the gray market). Thanks!
I admire Seiko. The rotor in your picture is not gold.
Given the craftmanship i think its fairly priced. And the accuracy base on what i have experienced is really allright. If you want a slimmer watch with gold rotor or a gold, platinum case be prepared to pay the price. My opinion.

Seiko watches are excellent...
but if you don’t feel the magic, move on and let someone else enjoy it.

It's basically the same watch as the one I show here, in various photos over the last 14 years. Your potential choice has a higher box crystal and no bezel, plus a transparent caseback, whereas mine is more sporty.

I don't think you will be sorry. It's one of the models that's been in their line for more than a decade - that should tell you something.

Agree w some of the comments
If it doesn't charm you, no need to go for it. Look for the next one that charms you. Gs is not mind blowing, but the details are quite well done. Generally they r quite nice even under high magnification, although they r not top top tier, which is reasonable for its price

I saw this watch at a special Seiko event. I really like it myself. In fact on of the Seiko people was wearing on. Its dressy enough to wear as a dress watch or just everyday.
Having seen the Credor Eichi ii at the event i was absolutely blown away by the craftsmanship.
Watches should talk to you so give it some thought . If you still want it in a week or so ( or maybe longer) buy it. If not then some other watch will be the right one .
