about 6200 with SUBMARINER on the dial, a rarer version than the one without it.
And by the way, on my wrist today. ;-)
Regarding which one was "the" first, I agree with Baron.
6204 was presented at Basel 1954 as the first Submariner on the market by Rolex, is a fact, but 6200 followed after few month on the market too.
Also 6205 has case serials earlier than 6200 though.
Despite this chronological history, in my opinion 6200 concept (and manufacturing) is earlier than 6204/6205 (950.xxx/6204 - 22.xxx/6205 and 6200 are 32.xxx numbers)
In any case we are talking about few months.
It's also a fact that already in 1954 some 6200 (not 369 dials) were tested by some French divers on Moana Expedition in French Polynesia, it's logical arguing that those watches were manufactured at least in 1953, and even before planned.
Another testing procedure is from Rolex and Underwater Research of Cannes in 1953 but this fact is still unclear.
In my opinion 6204/05 and 6200 were planned all together in a very little timeframe by Rolex and only the factory market policy for that time (the "tool watch" concept was almost unknown in the latest '40ies) has ruled the moment so that those models were introduced on the market.
I hope this helps. ;-)
