This week I´ve been able to wear a really nice watch, a Rolex Gmt 16700, one of these Gmt references that can be considered as "transitionals" between the lovelys Gmt 1675-16750 and the more modern Gmt variants.
It´s curious how the Gmt models were unchanged for over 20 years and, with the discontinuation of the amazing and venerable 1675 in the ´80, this Gmt family has been the Rolex sport family more changed.
More references appeared with the discontinuation of the 1675; a quick remember:
16750
This reference was introduced in 1980 to replace the 1675. Both watches are virtually identical. The only differences were a better water resistence and a new caliber in the 16750. Plastic/acrilyc crystal were in both references
16760
In 1983, Rolex introduced the revolutionary Gmt Master-II. This reference featured the new caliber 3085 movement, which de-linked the hour hand from the large triangle 24-hour hand for instantaneous setting of the second time zone on the face of the watch itself (the quickset date was sacrificed for this exciting feature). But the movement was not the only feature... this Gmt was produced with a shappire crystal.
The 16760 boasted an extra-thick case than its predecessor, as well as a thicker bezel & crown guards. The lovely "fat lady" or "Sophia Loren" was born.
16710
Produced until 1988, the 16760 was replaced by this reference (the 16710). A new caliber (cal. 3185 with identical functions that its antecesor 3085 movement) was mounted in this 16710.
16700
Introduced circa 1988, the ref. 16700 replaced the ref. 16750 in the Rolex catalog. Featuring the updated cal. 3175 (which functioned identically to the previous cal. 3075), the 16700 was sold until the late date of 1999, although overall production seems relatively small in comparison to the more advanced & functional 16710 GMT-II.
Shappire crystal, ratcheting bezel and gloss/WG surround dial and new case. A pepsi only available bezel, to distinguish it from the Gmt-Master II.
A nice watch, indeed. In a middle way from the amazings 1675-16750 and the modern Gmts (ceramic bezel).... a watch with a lot of charm.
This watch is really awesome for me. The last one with tritium indexes, but with a modern look that I love a lot. Not with the lightness of the other vintage Gmt Rolex but with not its soul. You can´t have all in this life LOL
And this one is really nice, don´t you think it?. What a nice bezel!
A (endeed) week of pleasure!.

Hope you enjoy these pics. Best, my friends.

Your 16750 is one of the most beautiful Gmt´s I´ve never seen. It´s just awesome!.
You have great tastes, my dear friend. And your pic is like it deserves.
Really thanks for sharing your Beauty.
Best, Patrice.

I can´t agree more with you.
It´s right that probably the Gmt´s that I love more are the first and the last one (the first if we don´t speak about no crown guard Gmts). So, I love at the same time the 1675/16750 and the amazing and strong ceramic bezel one.
The 1675/16750 because if you can find one with a nice patina, this watch is difficult to beat. Soul, beauty... all are in these watches. But you must pay that these watches are not the best for a modern and hard life.
The Ceramic bezel ref.16710 Gmt-Master II is simply awesome. I´m in love with this watch. I´ve wanted to buy it for two or threee times, but I´ve bought another one. Modern and strong look, an awesome bezel and case, and this green gmt-time hand... umhhh, funny watch. I love it. I only regret the two finishes bracelet.... bad idea by Rolex.
This 16700 is in the middle of the way, Hermano. It´s like a 14060 that I had some time ago. A modern look but with a nice aged tritium.
Modern or vintage??. I loved my maxi dial and loved my LV at the same time. Every one can give you differents feelings and differents benefits.
I will add a gmt into my little collection??? I don´t know, hermano. The end of the year will tell me what can I do. Hard life for me.
Thanks for your nice words my friend. I thank you a lot.
Best, Hermano

Only in watches, I must admit that I´m a fan of pepsi
Best my friend.

certanlly, the aligment of the SWISS T<25 is different of the different 16750 dials that I´ve seen. But I must admit that I´m not an expert, so my opinion is not an expert opinion.
Nice pics, by the way.
