Hi All,
This was my late grandfathers Rolex Cellini. Have the matching pair in the female version too (manually wound it and it works).
It’s been sitting in a draw for 20 years, the crown has fallen out and it looks like it has seen better days. Will definitely need to replace the crown.
Can anyone help identify what Cellini it is or the ref? Looks like a 4084 but I have no papers.
On the back it has the Rolex logo and then “2832329” along the bottom of the case.
The watch has probably never been serviced. Do you think it’s possible to repair a vintage watch like this, service it and get it looking good? Would need a polish too? From what I can tell, the market value isn’t huge for a watch like this. It does have sentimental value but if it would cost more than the watch to fix, I don’t know if I would.
Would a watch in this condition need to go back to Geneva or could a Rolex Service Centre fix this locally?
Interesting to note, that I took it to an official Rolex seller today and they said the band looks aftermarket. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I have a Patek from the same year and the band is identical, and I know that band is proper.
It does say “Zurich Watch Co. H.K.” on the clasp…I actually called them but they couldn’t help. Was it normal in those days for the official seller to stamp their name? They are still an official retailer. The female watch has this too.
Finally, any idea what the 585 or 669 means?
Thanks so much!!!
