In the world of automobiles there are some companies that professionally modify cars such as Singer, Ruf, and others
In small supply. These cars are often highly sought after and command prices far above what the base car costs
due to the high standard and extensive reengineering that goes into these products.
In the watch world, modified watches aren’t usually refinished to standards approaching the original manufacturer and so aren’t looked
upon as kindly.
However there are exceptions, as always.
Artisans de Geneve is a company that produce limited editions using Rolex watches as a base before modification.
I must admit that I’m not usually a fan of these types of products, however when something sings to you it’s hard to resist
regardless of its origins.
The tribute to 6241 gold was produced in a limited edition of 26 pieces and when I first came across the watch on their website I was
not familiar with the high level of craftsmanship that this company puts into its products . However after taking the plunge and
receiving the watch I can tell you that their work is beyond reproach. This opinion is not just my own, it is also echoed
by all my friends who love watches and have seen it in person.
A Rolex Daytona 116508 solid gold is used
as the base watch.
The diameter is shaved down to 39.5mm.
Crown guards are removed
Gold pump pushers are created and used.
The bezel is handmade Bakelite using the
same machine from the 60s used for the vintage pieces.
Plexiglass is used instead of sapphire.
12h/6h vintage polishing incorporated.
It comes with both gold bracelet and handmade alligator strap.
The movement is a 4130 Rolex modified
with 22ct gold rotor that can be seen
through a transparent sapphire back.

I just wanted to share this watch as it brings a smile to my face and in the end , that’s what watch collecting is all about.

Not sure what to say as I'm not too familiar with Rolex
It is clear that they invested in how to create this watch.
However, the cars you mention, you can clearly see they are related but no copies.
Not sure how that works with your Rolex.
But again, looks good to me...

a hommage isn’t usually well received in the world of watches , I do believe that this was done respectfully and not meant to

I’m not a vintage watch collector as I’m more comfortable buying and using watches with modern movements that
are more robust for everyday use. And when the aesthetics of the watch appeal to me, I’m sold!

Exactly! I dont see the beauty in beaten down, roughed up, saggy, discolored pieces either especially when they demand insane prices. [nt]

If you like it that is all you need. It is more and more accepted, Bamford watches do well at auctions. All the AdG watches sell out fast, i liked there Milgauss version a lot. But not at
13 K euro....

I was able to handle a friend's one and have to say I like it.
Vintage ones have simply gone too far, this is a good alternative for those who want to have that design on their wrist.
I wonder how come Rolex let's them keep the name on the dial, do they have an agreement or is this a legal grey area?

Rolex will absolutely not touch this watch for anything.
For maintenance I can send it to artisans de geneve or
it can be serviced by any watchmaker that is qualified to service Rolex 4130 movement,
of which there are many around the world.

The fact that your watch has a rebuilt "Rolex engine" is a bonus but otherwise its the same metal (most of it) plus a few added components.
