Without side by side comparison, I honestly don't see any differences between the 40 and the 41... Looks great on you thou! Get the one that you like (I mean the dial).. Day Date 40
As I was waiting for an extra link being added to my little 15202ST for summer I couldn't help trying on the new Day Date. Finally Rolex has made the perfect size Day Date. 40 mm! The 36 mm is for girls. And the Day Date II (41 mm) just looks wrong in any way possible. Funny how 1 simple mm can mess a watch up completely. I have this feeling that if Rolex would make a 40 mm Sky-Dweller it would get the attention it deserves.

Yellow Gold
Don't know which dial is nicer. This one, or the Roman numeral one? The Roman numeral dial is perhaps a bit more playful? On the other hand indices with applied lume are quite nice too right? Functional and cool. I always like seeing a bit of shiny lume in the dark. One thing is for sure; I was pleasantly surprised by this version. The yellow gold looks really cool (on me). Old Skool yes, but nevertheless certainly up to par and for some odd reason better than the rose gold version. Will Yellow Gold get a revival in the near future?!? Too bad no Sundust striped dial for this one. Wonder how that would look.

My favorite! Sigh.... Love that dial. Playful. Summery. Pop Art/Comic like. Modern/youthful. The price tag however is a bit disturbing. In several ways. Plus it is a very heavy piece. Literally. Feels like you have got a brick on the wrist. Will that be annoying long term? Or would one get used to it? The bracelet is heavy too so that does give it balance. It is not top-heavy. The metal colour makes it a more everyday kind of watch than YG or RG. And the diagonal motive dial (as Rolex calls it....I would call it Pop-Art motive) design makes it even more versatile. I would like to have one. This trying on session made me greedy.
Rose Gold
This picture didn't turn out not that great colour wise (phone-pic). It looks like yellow gold, but it is the rose gold one. This watch does not suit me. It was the one (after the platina) I (thought) I liked best (with the sundust striped dial), but after having it on the wrist I would definitely favor the YG one. To my own surprise mind you. That just shows how important it is seeing a watch in the metal and not only online or in a magazine. Oh and Rolex...if you are reading this (lol) please make a silver Sundust striped dial! That would look perfect in the Everose case. Just saying.

36 mm is quite an elegant size, Arie.
Especially for a Day Date, which is a dressy Rolex.
Now, I agree with you that it is mandatory to see watches in the real before judging them.
There is a world, and a big one, between virtuality and reality.
Last week, I fell in love with a YG 1675... Because I saw the good one, at the right moment, in the reality.

36 mm is the perfect size for an elegant, subtile dresswatch.
I never liked the 41mm version, and not impressed with the new one, but it is more harmonized than the 41 mm one.
But the real classical is the 36mm!

not that there is anything wrong with girls ;-) Keep in mind that I am not talking vintage, but modern Rolex. And when it comes to a modern choice I feel that 36 mm is too small (ok ok depending on wrist size). But on my Western European farmers-wrist ;-) a 36 mm seems a girls size. Don't get me wrong. I own a 1962 Omega Constellation which is 35/36 mm and I wear it with pride. But that is period correct.

Will I get one? I don't know. The platina with pop-art dial is my favorite. But as I stated that price tag is hefty. Very hefty. There are so many watches out there for this sum of money that are so much more interesting in so many ways it seem ridiculous buying one. Especially if you are on a budget. Which I am. And looking at the yellow gold one...don't know if I can pull that of. Style wise and age wise. As a friend of mine (pun intended) said: on the wrong wrist it can look really dodgy (think Sopranos). Besides that there wouldn't be many occasions when I could wear it in that metal colour. And if there is one thing I dislike is owning a safe queen (eh...40 mm....safe king? lol) watch.
To get it out of my system I should better look into a vintage day date. Yes a 36 mm indeed. Though it will probably be too small for my liking...

Already figured so much. Did try a Day Date before (with the green dial) and found it too smal. On my wife's wrist that size is perfect. She liked that particular watch a lot btw :-/ But I thought that perhaps on a bracelet it could look a bit more suitable on my wrist. Sometimes a bracelet makes the overal look a bit more bulky. But it didn't. When choosing a modern Rolex it just has to be 40 mm.

perhaps a bit more circumspection is in order?
"The 36 mm is for girls." Many would disagree and some might take exception to such a blanket assertion.
"And the Day Date II (41 mm) just looks wrong in any way possible." To you, perhaps. To others, maybe not so much. It certainly does not look wrong to me and I voted with my wallet, having added, just under four weeks ago, a new platinum Day-Date II, to go with my rose gold Day-Date II and my other platinum Day-Date II. To me, they look as right as can be, in every way possible.
I'm on the fence for now, as far as the new Day-Date 40 is concerned. I've seen them in the metal, but have yet to try one on. However, I think we can all agree that they're terrific watches.

All the 40mm are great pieces too. The platinum is gorgeous too. I have the platinum 36mm and I don't think it is really girly...very classic and understated (perhaps the opposite than the day-date II).
