IWC

Dear Purists,

the only IWC pilot-style watch I have is this one from about 1998.  Although the whole concept of a mechanical watch for navigation has become anachronistic (along with dive timers), one might still recognize that IWC has an unbroken commitment to producing such a useful, durable, and handsome watch:

The 7 Days BP is also interesting, but why did they put a date on it?

And to say all, I am feeling it doesn't resist very well to the " outrages of times ".

with you on the date situation, certainly this display wasn't part of aviators' watches when they were functional, including the Mark 11 of course.

As for the size, while I personally love the historical size of my Mark 12, I find the BP to be among the most attractive 'contemporarily-sized' watches, but then I would gladly wear an original Flieger if I could pull it off!

Steve, I first saw this pic of your special edition some years ago and it's as stunning now as it was then.

Not oversized, still faithful to the spirit of the original ( if only they could remove the date... ).

Maybe it is time for you to hunt a nice original Mark 11, with its stunnnig movement?

Small in size, for sure, but full of charm!

Thanks Nicolas. I'm with you on the suggestion of a Mark XI, but a seasoned collector like you knows that one hopes to find a superb example, reasonably priced, and often the reality of the market is of mediocre pieces priced ambitiously! Still I will keep looking.

... bracelet I have ever come across. Slinky, flexible, smooth and so comfortable to wear.

The watch itself is about 12 years old. And my favourite feature is the blued seconds hand (hard to capture in photos) against the white dial. And like yours, it keeps excellent time, and the automatic rotor is quite an efficient winder.

Andrew, the white dial Mark XV looks very special. Actually I once passed on a chance to buy a brand new one from an AD soon after it had been discontinued. I still remember that missed opportunity sometimes..

You have a very nice Mark XV Spitfire. While the white dial is less common and perhaps a little more dressy, the black dial is more traditional and ultimately more legible, as a pilots watch should be.

Perhaps you can find a white dialled XV as a companion one day.

This won't beat a good vintage obviously, but does it fit for the job ?!? ... yep, for sure !!!
