IWC Pilot Aéronavale edition
Hello all,
Has anyone ever seen this watch? It seems to be a special edition for the French Navy Pilots (Aéronavale in French). Photo was taken on the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, the only aircraft carrier of the French forces. You can recognise Dassauly Rafale aiplanes in the background.
I find the limited edition very nice, rather subtle and well balanced!
Anyone knows if it can be purchased? I would love one!

Based purely on looks, I'd choose the SS Spitfire.

In an even worse position (away from 3 o'clock) on the black model? That's because the SS is 39 vs. 41 for the black.

That date windows are no longer relevant and stop this silly practice but they continue to ignore us...😔

I look at the date on my Mark XVI at least five times a day. My memory is shot.

Thankfully, we all have choices. But, in an age where day/dates are displayed in car instrument clusters, smartphones, tablets, notebooks, PC's and even speaking apparatus (Alexa, etc.), it makes a date on a mechanical watch's dial rather redundant. Add to that the fact that more than a majority of watch manufacturers insist on placing the date window in idiotic places (i.e. 4:30 and crooked) and most don't even bother to match the background color with the dial's, makes the date window rather unattractive to many purists.

I think I've read or heard from someone that you can only order these if you belong to a/this certain squadron. Not everyone chooses to order one either.
So I doubt an outsider could get one.

I got the answer from IWC: this model is not for sale.
So, to be hunted on the used-watch market in few years time...

I have just read your posts about the IWC Top Gun special edition "French Navy Aeronavale".
You are right, you had to be a French Navy Fighter Pilot to be one of the lucky few to be able to buy this really rare edition. Only 30 built. With Pilot Name and Naval Aviator number engraved in the back.
As French Navy Fighter pilots are trained in the US Navy, there is a strong link explaining this peculiar edition.
That means extremely hard, not to say impossible, to find.
