Hi ristis,

Here are two different style panerai watches and I wanna know which one you guys prefer: they are pam 9A and pam 190G. Let me list these following differences just to make it more clear:

Case: 9 - PVD coated ss in Luminor style 44mm, 190 - polished ss in Radiomir style 45mm

Caseback: 9 - solid ss, 190 - crystal see-through saphire

Dial Color: 9 - black, 190 - dark grey close to black

Lum. Stuff: 9 - tritium, 190 - luminova

Dial Structure: 9 - engraved & filled up with tritium, 190 - engraved sandwich

Hands: 9 - black tritium hands, 190 - gold luminova hands

Movement: 9 - ETA, 190 - JLC.

Really need references to make a decision. Thks for making a choice.

Do you prefer an horological OR an historical version of 2 very tempting watches?

Both are great, they don't simply play in the same field.

I would say, in an heartbeat, the 190, for its horological virtues, and also because it has a stunning appeal.

You won't go wrong with any of these 2.

Personally I think the same way as you do, however, when browsing through the grey markets around, can easily find that 9's price is even going higher than the 190's. What do you think about that? Only because of 9 takes a load of history heritage?

the 190 has DNA looks with an awesome JLC movement, hard combination to beat !

The PAM9A is much more difficult to get nowadays than the PAM190.  Also looking at it from a collectibility standpoint, the PAM9A is much higher on the ladder in that regards IMO.

If you like both models equally, then I suggest looking at your collection and see which Panerai least overlaps with the rest of your Panerai's.

9A for me as well.  I really like the look of the T-dials.  I have a 190 now and wouldn't mind adding a 9A or 4A.

Both are great pieces in their own right, and which ever you choose will be a winner.

Is this the only piece you will wear or something to add to an already mixed collection? . . .do you wear a suit and tie or are you a casual fellow? . . . .do you prefer a more rugged or dressy look?


As others have noted, from an horological stance . . .the 190 is a clear winner with the JLC movement.  The Rad case is more flexible than one might think, and able to go both rugged and dressy with some trap changes.

The 9A is certainly more rare and a mellow, warm tritium dial against the PVD case is a true pleasure to see on the wrist . . .more "alive" in many ways if you have succumbed to the tritium sickness.


I currently have the 190 and have owned the 9A . . . .some pics to help with your consideration . . ..only you can truly decide . . ..good luck!

190 is simply beautiful and has a really nice movement..

But the 9A is on another level...
