Officine Panerai

Dear All,

I am a newbie here for Panerai and need some advice from the Masters here : )))
how is it feel to own Pams, to be honest I seen many Panerais but still not touching my heart, this may because I make some distance or afraid to get infected by the virus.
Recently, I saw the 000 and 219 on local AD, and this is very clean and I think a good start for the first Pam.
What do you think I should get??? any advice please

You have the nice OP Logo, created in the pre vendome era, so a small part of History, a superb dial, and a solid case back.

Not that the 219 is not a good watch, it is, but a " Destro " configuration is something special, and for a fist Panerai, I' m not sure it is the best choice.

Well, those two choices you are looking at are great, and for me, i'd always still stick to my values though and get only 47mm for my 1st and only Panerais, the ONLY historically correct watches of which is a big part of me loving this brand.

Like what amanico said above, a Destro Panerai would fit better as a 2nd Panerai or later addition IMO.

who hasn't landed himself a Pam yet, I speak differently from the pool of already pam gurus here! It's toxic and it's confusing, I'm still hunting down my first Pam. Many are most than eager to help you out, often times landing you in a more confused spot hahaha.

Do some homework then just follow your heart! Know the piece you will be owning, enjoy the hunting journey and once you made the acquisition, know your gem well other than its pretty face and just feel good wearing and showing them off!

I'd recommend the PAM 005.  I might get blasted from other Panerai fans for not suggesting the 000, but I like the 005 due to the small seconds at the 9 o'clock position to replace the 9 indices.  And the logo is really cool looking. 

The other I really like is the PAM 233 (but previous version with the dot indicator).  First in-house movement the P.2002, 8 day power reserve, manual wind, GMT, 1950 case, and domed crystal.

Take your time and browse the catalog and visit your AD a few times.

I forgot to mention that the PAM233 also has a sandwich dial and transparent caseback.  IMO the balance wheel is too small for the overall movement but it works fine.

would be a good to kick start and warm you up. They are manual wind and if you prefer automatics, the 312 with 3 day power reserve in-house movement would be great too.

It is difficult to choose amongst so many models but everyone is unique on its own, imho, although they are looked the same as what my wife says..lol...

Perhaps I can offer my perspective on this.

I am also fairly new being PAM owners.

I started with 177 - Luminor Marina in Titanium.  I love it very much.

However the allure of simple dial on the logo model is too strong, so I succumb and got another one: PAM 000  .


If I were to recommend a first PAM to a friend I would recommend PAM 000 for the following reasons:
1. Being the Luminor Base (no subdial for second hand like found in Marina models) price is more logical to try entering Panerai owner circle.
2. If you end up loving Panerai then it's great you can start moving up the ladder into more popular models.
3. And If you decided that Panerai is not really for you, then its no harm done either as PAM000 is one of the most sought after model so you will be able to sell it fairly quick as well.

All in all Panerai is different than previous watches I have owned, and it has unique looks and feel as well.
It is not uncommon to hear some people have decided to try and bought Panerai and found them too big and ended up selling them.

here is mine. Get a 249. The Cali (it also has its name) is a 47mm, with super historical Panerai DNA, rare enough to feel "great" when you wear it...

well, lets see how the market goes, and wait for the right time,

perhaps, 249 and 372 are my favorite modern pannies,

will have to wait for 372 I suppose,

But anyway, you have to own and wear one before it can touch your heart..

If I remember correctly, it took me a month or two til I get to really like my first Panerai..

And of those 2, I would get the zero.. It's a great starter Panerai watch..

You can't go wrong with the zero...

It's always the your JLC collection that always pops in to my mind..
