Panerai today has implemented an official policy to begin replacing any non-current production PAM's with tritium dials/hands with superluminova when your PAM's are sent in for servicing at the Panerai Service Center, only if the tritium is found to be flaking or chipping off. The reason Panerai is doing this is because there is no more tritium stock available.
If you request that Panerai not touch your tritium hands/dial when your watch is in for service, Panerai will not service your watch if it sees the tritium chipping off. So those who own any A, B, or C series Panerai watches with tritium dials and/or hands, if you wish to keep your original tritrium dial/hands, take your own risk if you send in your watch to Panerai for servicing.
And also, if only the tritium on the hands are flaking off and the tritium on the dial is perfectly fine or vice versa, Panerai will still replace BOTH hands and dial to superluminova because Panerai wants matching hands and dial.
Cheers,
Anthony
PS. And for those who don't know, when tritium begins flaking off the hands or dial, these little pieces can find their way to the watch oils and lubricants, among many other places, which can then damage your movement.
Although I have been eyeing on a A or B tritium dial for sometime, guess this news will stop me from getting one already..though I still like the patina of the aged tritium..

And just discovered this forum. Hi Anthony, glad to have found this place.
I've just posted this on another forum:

This cannot be true. It goes completely against the quality Panerai stands for. And with quality I mean the emotional quality related to the brand, history being a major part of it.
Panerai does show this vividly with the Classic Yacht Challenge. They are even restoring a wonderful vintage yacht right now! I’m sure this will be restored with the qualities that fit the standards in the world of classic yachting.
I think it’s apparently now the moment for Panerai to officially open their ‘Restoration & Preservation Workshop’ for vintage and out of production 10 years+ watches.
Lot’s of brands who respect their heritage have defined the quality standard by means of their own restoration workshops. Mercedes is a good example. Anything from any Mercedes is still available. Their own restoration department delivers the best quality possible. I agree everything comes with a price. But we all know that there are people willing to pay the price needed to keep their precious ‘artefact’ in top condition.
I can not imagine that Panerai is totally saying goodbye to all Vintage, Pre-V, and A-series owners. If this message is true would I be totally stupid to send my Pre-V Logo in for service???? To send my 27 Silver Arrow in???? To send my 25A in???? To send my 1A in???? To send my 1BT in???? To send in my…????
Kindly asking sign. Bonati to please assure us Tritium owners that we are always welcome with Panerai to keep our watches in perfect shape with the preservation of the history of the watch.
Have said it a few times yet, but say it again: “I can not believe this, say it isn’t true, please sign. Bonati?”

And this:

But then again, I think Panerai should do the effort to find possibilities to create new stock of Tritium part. Soleley for 'restoration and preservation' purposes.
If Tritium is only allowed for serious deep diving equipment, these days, then Panerai could better adapt the seals for higher water resistance, instead of the Luminova swap.
Again, I think it is a very bad case if Panerai can not provide a solution for our Tritium watches.

Any opinions here about how Panerai should or could handle this problem ????

Hi Nicolas,
Sold my Logo to fund my new 'hobby' being a designer, and bought it back a half year later. So I'm still the proud owner of my Logo!
HAGWE.

Gerald,
You can do this: 'Restoring a wonderful vintage yacht right now! '
IF you sale many more NEW Watches
AND IF you reduce your cost of servicing
You scare people by saying Hazardous, omitting to say in one million year. et voila! The minority is left behind and the environment gets so much better, to a point that one day we will not be allowed to live in it ;-)
Beside it does include only the Pre-Vendome 201/A, A, B, C series + PAM 64 PAM 87 PAM 194 PAM 199 etc... till 2005
will Rolex honor the integrity of the watch when sending into service? Will Patek?
Maybe something to be learned here.
The only problem I can suspect is coming from the insurance companies handling the employer liability, where Panerai cannot run the risk of exposing workers to handling tritium.
Best,
Asi
How will you pay the remaining balance LOL! You're funny... ;-)
