Hi everyone, I am trying to decide between the 190 vs the 268.  This would be my first Panerai.  Since I'm new to all of this, would appreciate any thoughts / advice / tips from you experts out there.  Beyond looks, are there other things I should be thinking about when deciding eg. rarity value, movement (I know the 268 is in-house, but frankly not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing), etc.

Apologies if this is a stupid question.  Any help would be appreciated!

 

... as Panerai moves towards manufacture status. So rarity- and maybe value-wise, the 190 would be the choice. If you are considering movement and has a penchant for in-house developed movements, then the 268 should suit you. Both are 8-days but if you like the simpler dial design of the 190 (power reserve indicator  being located at the back of the movement) over the slightly busier 268 (cyclops over the date and the linear power reserve indicator), therefore a more classic and traditional look, the 190 should suit you. The 268 also allows for second reset once the crown is pulled to the time adjustment position, that is if you are picky over accuracy.

It would be best to try both on your wrist if possible. Only then would you discover any feelings for either or both of them! Both are excellent choices but my vote goes towards the 190 cos to my knowledge, production has ceased and that I prefer its simpler dial.

The 190 probably is more collectible since Panerai will (or already has) stopped production on the 190; and if they already have officially stopped production on the 190, I believe you can still find some at authorized dealers around the world.  Both are great watches so you can't go wrong with either, and please do keep us updated on which one you choose!

So, the PAM 190 was produced in 2050 pieces for 3 years, G,H,I or if you prefer, 2004, 2005, and 2006.
There were 50 more pieces in Platinum and 800 ( I'm not sure,) in Rose Gold .
The 268 is the new rad 8 Days...
Nobody knows how many will be produced, but I guess more than the 190.
JLC movement ( 190) against "in house" ( Fleurier, for Panerai?) movement.
The JLC is reliable and nice ,the Panerai is Angelus look like, so nice too, but reliable? We'll see later, I really don't know.
After, and last point, esthetics...
The 190 is, IMHO, much nicer with its clean dial.
The 268 ius a bit " Xmas Tree" with allthese indications, PR, Date, Seconds, and so on...
IMHo the 268 doesn't have the strengh of the design of the 190, but as always, tastes...

The 190 with its clean face and 8 day movement from JLC corresponds well to the history of the brand.  When they had partnerships of sorts with Rolex and Angelus for their eight day movement.  Going forward Panerai will be doing more and more in house movements so the 190 will fall in to one of the classics.

They are still available and some AD's and the secondary market has shown some upward pressure.  The longer you wait the less chance you will have to acquire one.  The 268 should be available going forward.

as of its look and movement. But I don't think the 190 is difficult to find and there are some of 190s put up on sales in the secondary markets. Nicolas already did a nice job on the sum up and the scan from Bill explain everything about the 190.

i just bought one today (hee hee) in singapore at sunshine plaza (bencoolen street)

there's another 190 at another shop there called TIME WILL TELL
