Hello,
I am upgrading from my Omega Seamaster and have found the Panerai Luminor GMT with a steel band. Australian price is $10,700, this doesn't overly worry me how ever is this a sound watch?
Is there a model that would be better suited for every day use?
Are their any "issues" with the watch and or style that anyone genuinely knows about?
The watch looks awesome and of very high quality but just want a little feedback before jumping in the deep end!
Look forward to hearing from the panel of the Panerai appreciation society!
Matthew
the GMTs, including your choice of PAM 161 are real workhorses and are intended for everyday use. The movement is based on the Valjoux 7750-P1 and is very reliable. The Panerai bracelet is IMHO the best there is and you can easily replace it with a leather strap making the watch very versatile.
Do tell (and show) us what you decided!

It is not in bracelet but possible to be changed to one if you prefer.
It is robust and one striking looking watch..I still missed the wobbles created by the movement.
Cheers,
Do you like metal bracelets? If so, you'll love the exquisite work Panerai has put into its bracelet, and the deployant clasp is secure and tight now, unlike the original deployant clasp.
One drawback about the Panerai bracelet is that it 's a scratch magnet; and cause of it, I would highly recommend getting the all brushed version rather than the bracelet w/ polished SS links.
Panerai's can take abuse and is perfect for an everyday beater watch. And as Asi has already stated, you can easily interchange a bracelet model with a leather strap for an even more versatile look.
Cheers,
Anthony
the 88-GMT, very good looking and very functional. If you travel a lot, the 88 will not let you down. You can take both Anthony's and Asi's suggestion on details.
Wish you have the right favorable choice of your first Panerai very soon.
Cheers.
