The objective: A casual, weekend watch in a white metal on a black strap. Simple enough, right? Not for someone with my particular variant of acute OCD. I wanted a piece incorporating an interesting complication, preferably in a precious metal – a watch that bridges the gap between advanced horology and weekend wear – something with character and spirit, yet not flashy/blingly – something with presence on the wrist, yet not gynormous (preferably 42-45mm). These considerations narrowed my options considerably.
Upon defining my objective, two watches clearly separated themselves from the pack as the obvious choices: Lange Double Split and Glashutte Original Senator Rattrapante LE in platinum. I like the Lange, but I already own a Datograph Perpetual and, if possible, I prefer to maximize diversity in my collection. Moreover, the dial on the Double Split is, IMHO, only marginally inspiring. I have absolutely loved the G.O. from the first time I saw a photo of it (never saw it in person). However, I just purchased a split second RM004 as a casual weekend watch, and I was contemplating a different complication for this piece (possibly a tourbillon).
I then considered a dizzying array of watches, from the JLC AMVOX3 (unimpressive tourbillon, dial elements did not resonate for me) to the Patek 5960p (too small, hate the stem/cap pushers) to the Parmigiani Pershing (too large, odd lugs), but all fell short for one reason or another. I also considered the Panerai 317, and reconfirmed my desire to own this watch, but I will put a brown strap on that baby if and when I am given the opportunity to purchase one.
In the end, I decided that my sole reason for balking at the G.O. -- I already have a split second weekend watch -- was uncompelling. In fact, after much contemplation, I decided that a split second chronograph is far more consistent with my objective of a casual, weekend watch than a tourbillon (notwithstanding my love of tourbillons). Like the RM004, the G.O. successfully bridges the gap between advanced horology and weekend wear – it incorporates a sophisticated, complicated movement with a fresh, spirited presentation. Moreover, while full of character, it remains understated and easy to wear. Most importantly, I love the look of it.
I received my new G.O. on Tuesday. The very first thing I noticed was the weight. With a 42x15mm platinum case, it is a heavy watch. I love the weight (I do not like titanium watches that disappear on your wrist). The case size is exactly what I was looking for, both in diameter and height . . . strong presence for a weekend watch.
The second thing I noticed is the spectacular movement. The engineering, craftsmanship and finish on the movement are exquisite. With all due respect to my Datograph Perpetual, Lange has nothing (perceptible) on G.O. This is yet another watch that I would gladly wear backwards.
The dial/case design is also fantastic. The grey dial is stunning . The red and blue accents dress down the watch. I love the roman numerals and the shape of the hour hand. Even the strap is wonderfully constructed.
The chronograph buttons and hands operate as smooth as silk . . . definitely as smooth as my Datograph Perpetual. Likewise, the winding mechanism is firm and strong.
This is exactly the weekend watch I was looking for. It blends an advanced, sophisticated movement with a casual design perfect for weekend use. This is one of the finest chronographs I have ever handled and, IMHO, deserves mention along side Lange’s Double Split and Datograph and Richard Mille’s RM004.

I too am looking for a rattrapante and this is definitely on my list. I would like the double split but it is too big for me in terms of price and size.
I will need to try this on again as when I tried it on when it first arrived on my shores, I founf it did not sit well on my small wrist. It could be due to the nature of the strap.
In any case, much congratulations again and I think given your collection, this recent addition of yours says quite a bit abot the GO Rattrapante.
great about it! Craig, I would like to congratulate you for making this right decision and am happy to introduce my 006/100 to your 054/100. It is indeed a wondeful weekend watch:

Enjoy wearing with good health!

I like this piece a lot - much better than the RG version IMHO. The layout, the weight, the dial, the movement etc. everything is perfect, which make the watch very desirable. It is no doubt a casual weekend watch like you described, but no doubt a stylish and elegant one.
Huge congrats!
