thank you for letting us have a glance into your "laboratory"!

May I ask you for some details regarding this setup?
- The "light box" you are using, is it a DIY-construction, like cardboard and glossy lacquery ? Or is is something totally different?
- How do the spotlights differ from the lights one would find at his home? I asssume there are at least color temperature, intensity and sturdyness? Are there other important differences that I am missing?
- Would you mind giving us a rough idea how much effort you spend for taking a picture (e.g. like the one you attached) and for subsequently touching it up in PhotoShop?

The "box" is a DIY made of white acrylic "Plexiglass". That is a great material and the only you
have to thinking about is the heat from the spotlights. The spotlights is photolights with a bulb
that have 3200 kelvin color temperature. Then I point the light at the inside of the roof so I get
a indirect lightning so there will be not so much reflections from the lights.

I always try to compose the pic in the camera, so I only have to resize it and not crop it. A simple
rule is try to get the pic so good as you can in the camera, of course you can made things is PhotoShop
but it´s always best to get it right from the start. A blurry pic will never get sharp.

After that I open the pic in PhotoShop and use the color correction tool, sharpness tool, lightning tool,
and contrast tool. Sometime I have to erase dust and scratches. Sometimes I use filters but only in my
artistic pics.

it seems that lighting is all important in a good shot. one thing that pules me though is if your shining light at inside top of box why dont you get shadow from the camera?

i've just bought a light box and lights. its a soft light tent and the 2 lights are 5400 kelvins so as near to daylight as possible. all for a very good price i think.

i considered making my own box, but i'd have to travel miles to buy the plexi glass and add that to the time to make it i thought that buying the kit would be easier.

i've also bought a new tabletop tripod as my current one is ok for my sony cybershot but no good for my fuji S5600. that brings me to another problem i face. the sony will focus up to 1 cm from object, the Fuji has a macro focus of 9cm. i do have a screw on macro lense for the fuji which effectively quadruples the pic and it has a lot more manual settings. which one do i practise on?
