Of course, we here are all interested in those complex and beautiful feats of micro-engineering called watches, but sometimes it is nice to just revel in simple pleasures, don't you think?  What are some of your favorite simple pleasures?  Bubble baths?  The shine on your newly washed and waxed sports car?  Playing Legos with your kids?  Appreciating these little things helps to recenter me during stressful times.

A recent example of something simple that really made my day?

A perfect hard boiled egg.

I use Martha Stewart's recipe for a perfect hard boiled egg.  I bring the eggs to a boil over medium-high heat and then remove them from the burner to sit in the hot water for 12 minutes before plunging them in icy water to stop the cooking process.  This method works like a charm each time.

South Park and I've just got to embed this clip as it's extraordinarily appropriate for this rather jubilant moment in time X)....

South Park cracks me up!  It's sooo offensive, but in an equal opportunity sort of way.  One of my favorite South Park moments is when Cartman sings "Morning Train."  Ehehehehe!

that episode was mind bending hilarious, and what made it even funnier for me is that my brother was on a diet when they aired that episode and he had overdone it so grossly that he quite literally looked like the Ethiopian kid X). Good thing is all the making fun of got him to return to eating well again and reaching a healthy weight (took a while though) .

They are discovering something new each day!  It is so amazing to watch them experience even the simplest things for the first time!  How wonderful!

mimicking everything that i do in facial expression, speech and she will play and use her finger to point and pick up the smallest things, she will eat everything and try everything, without watching she will want to jump few feet from my bed to hers. I can go on. But its a a blessing to have her as she gives the highest joy through the simplest thing she does, smile at me and look me in the eyes...when i retire at 55, she enters university, cannot imagine

Enjoy these early days, my friend!  They will fly by!  I always feel like each passing year time goes by even faster!

You can combat this by changing routines. Trick your brain into thinking you are doing something unique every day and it will change your perception of time.

My mom would agree with you that #1 of your post is very therapeutic.  My parents living room is starting to look like a greenhouse with all her orchids.  I could see how polishing shoes would also be good for decompressing, although I prefer #3 better!    #4 for me would only be nice if it were a high quality clove cigarette.

Yes, dogs are indeed man's best friend. Malcolm Gladwell said in his book "what the dog saw" that dogs see humans as a gigantic tennis ball, and I totally agree. They mimick, taunt, beg and amuse me all the time.

#4 will come soon if I get to go to Bali, for a short dive trip. I will post pics of Indonesian coffee and a nice "Kretek" - Gudam Garam Surya cigerette which burn forever!

...I have tins of those! "The real kretek for the real smoker"....

Though I usually puff on Sampoerna when o'seas.

I will be united with my Gudang Garam Kreteks soon...wahahaha...Cigarettes are such...when you don't think about the health effects, they are man's best companion- whether serving time in the war front, or by the beach with a mojito.
