As part of a trade with a Dealer, I had to choose 3 watches...

I already made my choice for 2 of them.

I now have to make my mind on a third one, which could be a ...Speedmaster.

For the moment, I own a SM 300 14755, and another SM 300 from 1964, with the large bezel.

I will add a Railmaster in my collection.

Aboyt the Speedie, I'm a bit lost.

I know the CK 2915, which is my fav with the arrow hand and the SS bezel.

Is there any CK 2915 coming with a bakelite bezel?

Then, if I got it well, there is the 2998.

But the price is ...Pricey...Even if it it less worst than with the CK 2915.

then, there are later models, which are appealing when they come with a brown dial and superbly patined indexes.

It may be a solution, too, but do all these later Speeds come with the lugs ala Seamaster 300, or some of them are coming with straight lugs?

What would you do, in my case?

Straight lug speedies - 2915, 2998, 105.002 and 105.003; ref. 105.012 and 145.012 which had the cal. 321 and everything following that with the cal. 861 and later versions were twisted lug speedies.
Ref. 2915-3 was identical to ref. 2998-1 and some 2998-2 versions - they had the black base 1000 bezel, domed dial and alpha hands; some had lollipop seconds hand others did not.
As for what to get - I would get the earliest reference you can get with all original parts in the best condition you can find within your budget.

you could go for a 105.003 with straight lugs like the thin bezel sm300 and get a 64 model. i have to disagree with MSN i'm afraid as the 105.012 is the first assymetric cased model with twisted lugs like the big bezel sm300 model. all of these early models had black painted steel bezels.

Nice to see you joining the ranks of Speedy fans at last. Or maybe I should say owners - after all you've been a fan for a while I think but just not taken the plunge!

My dream would be the CK 2915 pictured on page 100 of Omega Sportswatches by John Goldberger - steel bezel, arrow hand, gorgeous lollipop seconds! I'd prefer it on a strap like the CK2998 on page 114 though!

So, based on that, if I had the opportunity I'd go for the oldest, most original (I hate replacement hands/bezels/crowns etc) Speedy I could afford and, if thats a CK2915 then you're blessed.

Every so often I take tha back off my modest 105.012 and gaze at the movement. It's a classic and a beauty to behold, and I love the richness of the various finishes - polished screws, copper, brass etc.

Enjoy your dilemma, then enjoy your choice.

This speedy is still one of my favourites, despite its age (this watch is as 'young' as me!!), I think it still looks cool on me, since I still look cool myself whahahahaha!

After reading your post, I had to take some pix of it again on Xmas day! Thanks to you!
