Hard to think of a bigger pricing misstep
It's a really cool concept that I think a LOT of people, including myself, really appreciated. But NOBODY thinks it belongs in the price bracket it's in.
I'd love to own and wear a watch like this, but I'll be more broadminded than you: I don't think they'd need to lower the price by 90%. Merely 80%! I think they could sell some at 10k.
But it's still remarkable to me to see Omega asking 50k for something that I'm pretty sure they couldn't even sell for 20.
now that i am thinking about it, i think it was released at $48k, not $43K. but forgive me for confusing 3 and 8...
at that price, what's the difference? i love this sports watch that supposedly can actually "take a licking and keep on ticking", but the price, oh the price... see my reply to marcus below! glad someone else agrees with me!
hand wound super shock resistant watch with recessed crown that pops out to wind. marvelous but price prohibitive. i'd take this over any richard mille any day
Ahh yes, and if I see in what direction the Swatch stock market goes, then I would suggest to Omega, remain innovative, but ALSO competitive!
Ps: for people that are not familiar with the stock - meanwhile it is, where it was 10 years ago and continues to go downwards… 🙈

The watch is very interesting and rare
Fun fact is that people are ready to pay the 4x price of RM for a similar product: super light titanium watch on a rubber band. But omega is not RM.
The cases of RM's ultra light watches are mostly made of plastic, and the Ti movements are skeletonized
They use fiber-reinforced epoxy or nylon for the cases, and acrylic crystals. The Omega ultra light is 55 grams on the velcro strap, while several RMs are under 20g on the strap. It's light compared to a normal aqua terra, but they aren't going all the way like RM does.
They used to be very common, Omega still uses them on the Moonwatch
Most watches between the 50s and 80s used acrylic crystals, because it has much better impact resistance than plate glass, and is very easy to work with. It's also about a third the density of sapphire, which is why RM uses it in their ultra lights. Omega uses it in the moonwatch for aesthetics, but also sells a sapphire version.
There is no RM under 20 on the strap...
the Nadals that are advertised as 20g watches are all that weight without strap... only the latest one from this year is weighted at 15g but this is some kind of advertising video not from the collector so not sure about that either... I think that one collector from Japan from this forum had 3 of the first Nadal watches and posted them on scale on strap way above advertised 20 and 21 grams... something about 32, 36 and 38...
