The MoonSwatch craze over?
No lines, no waitlist, and most models are freely available at the boutiques. Did the initial marketing & subsequent shortage create the excessive demand or was it a case of herd mentality? Same watch, same price but no takers now? Will this also happen to other brands that have a current supply/demand imbalance?
I don't think that the situation is....
the same all over the world. I happen to have one, and am enjoying it regularly to the fullest extent

Many are people that have great collections built up over years but enjoy the MoonSwatch with passion. Unfortunately some people can’t enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
It was just marketing and greed
Stupidity at its best.
I guess they thought they could replicate the long lasting Swatch quest for years, but a golden hand is likely not enough to sustain this business model.
Today everything is faster than 20 years ago.

Marketing and greed, as our dear Piccolochimico said. And this may well happen to all the brands.
It definitely does not seem to be the same all over.
Availability, last time I asked, was still somewhat limited in the US. Always some in stock, but not the entire line up.
Personally I own one, and in theory would own another. I own multiple Swatch watches and so why not multiple MoonSwatch?
From my consumer perspective this remains a fantastic product. A fun product.
There is nothing I see which makes me believe this somehow cheapens Omega or the Speedy. If you wanted to spend $10k on a Speedy buying a Swatch is not going to satisfy you. Most Speedy buyers are aspirational and only the real thing will ultimately satisfy them.
I needed some time to sit with this issue but…
I’m very disappointed that Omega went down this road. The fact that they’re even writing reviews comparing moonswatch to the original is disheartening. Rolex would never do something like this. Moonswatch attaches a silly cuteness to a timepiece that went to the moon (I draw the line at Snoopy 😆) which I think cheapens the brand. From a corporate perspective perhaps an argument can be made for sales “synergies” but as a consumer that owns the real McCoy I am not happy which in the final analysis should (I hope) matter to Omega. I see your side of it but in the longer run not IMHO good for Omega 🤷🏻♂️…
I should now add that I was going to, but ultimately didn’t, qualify my last comment above to say the following…
…”The only folks likely to care are us, collectors”. Which I think is where you are coming from and I do understand it from that perspective as unlike the average buyer your motivation for buying is different.

In both situations, at the end of the day you realize have a cheap toy.
I don’t see any use of it. I checked few days ago at their store on 5th Ave and they had two models available with more to come weekly as per the sales associate!
As everything else this also will come to an end…
