That's more than I would've expected. Original black dials . . .

Assuming it is actually completely original, then . . .
. . . $2K would represent the top of the market. It's not a terribly collectible reference, so the eBay crowd would likely top out at $1K. Between collectors, I can see $1.2 - $1.5K.
When an item like this goes over the top, it's most likely by a person new to collecting that really wants a pristine example in the worst possible way. For the same money (~$2K), a pink gold ref 2521 just changed hands on eBay. That's a rare jumbo reference, and a chronometer to boot. Much better to put marginal dollars into that than the black waffle. It'll be a while before the winner of this auction is in the black - no pun intended!

It's true about what you said, for that amount I'll start looking for an omega marine (saw some in considerable condition, dang I missed the opportunity) or a very nice gold constellation, or a seamaster with rotating bezel(saw some around the same price). But I'm not sure why, around Japan the value of vintage 40es-60es omega black dials seem pretty high these days online...
Btw, how to differentiate the original crystal from aftermarket coming from that era?

Japanese collectors have a reputation for being discriminating, Jev. I was . . .
. . . really torn about making the call on that dial, especially since it's sourced from Japan, where the good stuff often ends up. Little wonder it went for such a high price - black dials with rose gold furniture are aesthetically compelling.
As for crystals: best as I can recall, the Ω symbol started appearing in the mid-'50s, but I'll have to check on that. There's no sure way to tell if earlier production has an original crystal.

I'd be grateful for a link tontut auction as I just might make one. I've been looking for something like that and wouldn't care, if it necessarily wasn't 100% kosher... I just like the look of it.
