Gerald Genta at Basel 2009

I would like to thank a lot the whole Genta team, especially Mr Roden, Maud, Anne-Lise and Stéphane for the time they spent with me and for the warm welcome.

 

2009 is a very active year for Genta with a lot of novelties and more will come later this year. And it's logical : the company celebrates its 40th birthday this year.

 

I propose you to browse them now.

Very Art Deco

Those blocks remind me of Oriental designs, but as they were used in art deco furniture and the like... I like the elements of the design, but put together they leave me cold, at least in pictures. I'll have to head back to Paris and see them in person!

I love this one ! The dial is beautiful and it's a more affordable version of the Octo Fantasy than the Ultimate Fantasy. For the fans of Mickey Mouse, this is a very attractive Gerald Genta ! Maybe one day a striking watch will come with such decoration...

Part 5 : rubber strap for the Gefica and the white Gefica

The rubber strap for the Gefica needed a lot of work and tests from the Manufacture. The result is great even if I really think that the leather strap is a nicer combo for this watch. The white Gefica is a limited edition of 100 pieces. It is not my cup of tea but at least, it's a very different watch from the classic Gefica.

I already introduced you the Sunray with the Press Release. This watch is maybe the symbol of 2009 collection : yellow gold is coming back and a will from the Manufacture to present optimistic and fun watches in this hard context... Crisis ? What Crisis ? smile

I will not post pics of the Meta Sonic. First of all, because the commercialisation process is made directly to the potential clients. Moreover, we are speaking about a very special watch which uses materials developed to improve the quality of the sound. Believe me, these materials work perfectly and the Meta Sonic, due to its design, the efficiency of its 4 hammers chime is an unique watch in the world of the striking watches.

 

Of course, we will be authorised later to post pictures of it and don't be afraid : I will post them once I will be able to do it.

Thanks a lot to Mr Roden for the demonstration of this watch, the only way to understand all the work behind is to hear it.

Where is the history? Where is the 'genius' who made all the important, iconic designs from the 70's?

Not everything has to be significant.  Genta and its sister company DR have amazing capabilities, but I know you already know this.  You may not like the dial designs but there is nothing like GG watches anywhere else.

He's at his own company Gerald Charles smile but of course you knew this as well.

I guess I was just having an opinion... Lord knows if I met the man in real life I would want to shake his hand and would only feel deep respect for him. But it does seem he's abandoned all subtlety.
