Friends,
I would like to share another watch I never saw in real before our recent weekend in Paris: the GP Traveller II with black dial in stainless steel.
When I see the case of this watch I immediately think Girard-Perregaux.
The short, rounded and curved lugs shouts GP!
But in the same time the dial does not give me that typical GP vibe…
Why? It might have to do with the complications: alarm, second time zone and date.
The Second time zone is cleverly incorporated with the alarm scale at twelve, balancing the date window at six.
The big luminous hands are very much GP from this time era, early/mid 2000.
But I find
the numerals quite different from what we normally see (I am sure CC will show
us some example, but this is not the one I find as typical GP numerals
).
I really like the strap combo, the red stitches makes the watch look more sporty, almost a big “racing”!
Inside is the automatic caliber GP 2291, 31 jewels, 28800 vph.
As a long time collector of alarm watches I must confess that I don’t find the sound of the alarm in GP’s alarm watches as sophisticated as in some other brands.
We all know that in the vintage alarm watches from the 60’s and 70’s it was not in-house movements. GP used AS based movements. I suspect this is the case here as well.
That said, I would not hesitate to add one of these beauties to my growing GP alarm theme!
The case back says it all, or almost all – Time Zone, Alarm, Automatic. Should have said Date as well.
The watch is 38 mm in diameter but looks bigger on the wrist, more like 40 mm. I like it a lot, but it surprises me a lot. Normally with GP is the other way around, feels smaller than it is…
A very pleasant experience, this 4940! If I understand correctly, the 4940 came with several different dial versions. White, grey, black and pink.
This is a watch I would love to add to my collection, but if I could choose freely, I would go for the Pink dial…
The Dandy in me…
Big thank you to HS for letting me see and try this watch in real!

I would not have to travel....!

Travellers are rather rare to come across (despite they are not probably not rare in the true sense).
So I most happy to see a friends around here!. I bought mine a few years back, and IT IS my travel watch. It is both practical and it is neither too big nor too small, so it goes well with the suit and the jeans.
I bought it with the GP bracelet, but I replaced it with a leather strap with red stitching.

Have a nice weekend!

...sharing actually is a pleasure, even more so since we all know that there is a great community out there
Stefan
the impression of a dark bezel must be due to the reflection of the glass.
It might be best seen on the first pics in clear conditions.
