Girard Perregaux 1966 Dual Time: Pictures and thoughts.

Foversta wrote an article on that Watch a few weeks ago.

When we were at the Manufacture, Blomman and me, we couldn't see it in the real. But on pictures, I was not convinced.

In the real, neither, to kill any suspense.

Let's be clear: I love Travel Watches, GMTs, World Times.

I also love a lot the 1966 case, which I find really sublime.

But I don't get the expression of this complication, here, with this dial.

The 24 hours ring is too centered, which may be the consequence of housing a too small movement ( 11 1/2 ''', which is something between a  26 and 27 mm diameter ) and the subdial dedicated to the date " eats " the Time Zone.

Ok, the long applied hour markers tend to cancel this feeling of emptyness, but at the end, it is in vain.

A pity, because the use of pushers to set the dual time is a good idea, and, once again, the case is magnificient.

What do you think?

I agree that this is not one of GP's better Dual Time watches. 
But I don't understand why the size of the movement would matter here.
Yes, the location of the sub-second is related to the movement size, but the location of the second time zone is not, or am I missing something?
I think the 24 hour ring could have been moved outside its current location without requiring a larger movement.

Well, my guess is that the dial is often reflecting the size of the movement.

That makes me think about the centered subdials of the chrono version. Why I thought it may be explained by the size of the movement...

The 24 hour scale is applied to the dial so it could be any size.
The movement is 11 ''' 1/2, the case 40mm.
The 24 hour ring shows the home time.
The local time is read traditionally and is set forward and backward with the pushers.

and no matter how many new pictures this will not change. I trust the case is superbly finihsed, but the problems with this model are:
Dial Design: Date dial eating into the 24 hour dial, too pronounced 24h ring. the red hand in combination with pink gold...
Not being able to decide if this should be an elegant dress watch (pink gold 1966 case) or a more versatile traveller watch (24h ring, red hand)

Would be inreresting to learn if this model actually sells.

I do think though this has potential. I like the pushers. So maybe, do a Steel version, different, less dressy hour/minute hands and a different design for the date, it could work quite well.

...handled a 1966 chronograph day before yesterday (no date, automatic version) in white as well as colored metal..and I was totally blown away..it is an absolutely perfect watch by all definitions I can think of..the feel on the wrist, the finishing and the look, I can say with confidence that it is the best watch I have ever handled..I mean I felt the best handling it, so it just has to be the best smile 

yet, with all that said, this dual time zone does not evoke the romance of the chrono...the 1966 line has some real gems, like the chorno, the minute repeater or the simple small seconds models, so in that aesthetic and perspective, this model is tough to understand..it should have been more dressy on the dial and that would be enough atleast to fill in with the family...although the case looks gorgeous, the dial just needs to be a little less sporty, and it can become a very convincing model smile

I definitely also see the small movement in many of the design aspects.

First, there is the pretty large bezel which seems not to be in harmony with the overall size of the watch.

Then there is certainly the position of the inner ring that reveals the movement size.

Now, this criticism comes from someone who likes quite a few of the other 1966 models!

I will come back to some of the 1966 I could see. There are some pure treasures, in this line.

But like you, this one doesn't sing to me...

A pity, as we are many here, to love travel watches!
