Fellow enthusiasts,
Time to introduce a new family member to my little GP family. I already introduced my other cambered cushion GP (Ref 2598) here previously and I’m happy to say that I have added a second version of it to the family.
We had a wonderful report here before by nilomis on a 2498 that was rescued from a keen diver but with a black dial. Now for long I was also looking for the black dial but at some point I just started to like the white/silver dial and then I went for it.

The cushion-shape case is the most prominent feature of this watch and to me makes this really stand out from the crowd. GP has done an excellent job in case design here, even better than with the 2598. It has just the right areas brushed versus polished and the domed crystal adds to the appeal very much. The other nice feature of this watch is that it doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket, they are rather affordable.
I know some of you are not keen on the date window between 4 and 5 o’clock but it does not bother me at all and on the white/silver dial it is not really very present as it might be on the black dial.
The other prominent feature of this watch is the beautiful Guilloche dial. GP has done a superb job with this, very nice applied hour markers and an applied “12” at the top of the hour in silver is truly stunning.
The hour and minute hands are also silver with quite some lume. I would have wished a better contrast for easier reading of the hands, but that’s a minor point.
Ref 2498 is a 3 register chronograph with central seconds counter for the chronograph, small seconds at 3, 30min register at 9 and hour register at 6. There has been quite some debate about 2 subdials versus 3 subdials on a chronograph, I do like both variants. GP also has Ref 2499 which is almost identical but only has two subdials and no date window. This may be a future project but then with black dial. Problem is Ref 2499 is very rare, I have only seen some silly Sultan of Oman special edition. Not keen on such special editions, does anyone know if the 2499 was available as a standard GP Ref?

Here are some side-by-side photos:
2498 and 2598

I also put it side-by-side with my Sea Hawk “John Harrison” as they have a very similar colour scheme.

Concluding, the GP cambered cushion shape really got me hooked, can anyone think of other great cushion-shaped chronos? There is of course the GP 9012, same case but Rattrapante chronograph (even rarer and more difficult to find) or the gorgeous Patek 5950 (omg the price tag on that one).

Congratulations on yours.
This is one " raod " I have to explore a bit more before deciding myself.
Superb.

Hi CC!
Congratulations on your GP collection!
As you asked for cushion shape chronographs, here are two versions of the Vacheron Constantin Medicus (pictures found on The Hour Glass).

Good to see some nice pictures of it.
The white metal one is superb.
While the colored gold one has a nice retro touch.
A great Vacheron!

Nicolas
