Very nice to have a watch of your fathers. I agree that it looks late 1950's. What diameter is the case (excluding the crown)? Are you able to remove the case back and post a photo of the movement and tell us any markings/numbers? I assume the movement is hand wound (manual)? The 17 jewel movements, of which there were several used over this time period, were reliable workhorses. Your watch may well contain a Calibre GP27 (AS1130) which has a particularly attractive architecture as well. You may consider having it serviced if it has been more than 5-10 years and you wish to use it regularly. The textured dial is rather nice. Enjoy.

It is difficult to give you information on the exact age of your watch as, unlike companies such as Omega and Rolex, GP were not using a sequential numbering system at that time.
Do you know how long your father has had this watch and any more of its history? I wonder if the dial has been repainted at some point as some of the fonts don't look quite right.
Not all watchmakers scratch or write the service dates into the case back, but if you plan to use the watch regularly it would be wise to have it serviced and lubricated.

Help! Can you ID this GP???
Hello,
I found an old watch my father owns and would like to know from what year it is. I have searched online for information and I can only guess it's from the 50's or 60's. My intent is not to sell it, we are just curious to know more about it. My father purchased the watch at an antique shop en Buenos Aires, ARG for USD$150.
Under the GP it says 17 Jewels and below it says ANTIMAGNETIC.
Any help is appreciated.

...serial number on the back of the case or between the lugs of the watch (where the strap is attached either on top or bottom of the case)? That would be helpful information.

Thanks for showing interest in the watch. I took the lugs off and found a tiny ineligible marking on the bottom. I posted a photo of the inside and back cover in another response in the thread. Feel free to have a look and if you see anything interesting please comment.

Thanks for the reply. The diameter of the watch is 35mm. And yes, the movement is MANUAL. I don't know much about watches so I could not tell you anything about the Calibre. Here is a photo of the inside and the back cover. There is a number between the lower lugs but it is VERY small and looks 50% worn off. I'll try to get a magnifying glass to get a better read. Hopefully, I might get more answers with these pics.
Oh, think this watch has never been serviced. The inside cover is totally blank. I do plan on getting serviced in the near future.
