Girard Perregaux

Hi All,

 

A photo thread would be an appropriate way to kick off the invigorated PuristS Girard-Perregaux Forum. Faisal has in fact timed his new GP watch perfectly (pun intended), and I hope he shares some more shots of his WW TC with us as well.

 

So what Girard-Perregaux watches do you have hidden under the bed, in the closet, or on your wrists? Or if you just want to share your favourite GP timepiece, that would be fine too!

This watch personifies much of what I love about GP -- classical lines freshened a bit for modern tastes; legibility; and a touch of romance.

You know, Andrew, we too often read " I love this one, this is a great watch , blablabla ", but I would sometimes much prefer reading " This is a watch I really want to have ".

This is what happens to me with these watches from GP. I know I will end with several GPs.

For the moment, they are just a fantasy, but a fantasy I want to turn into reality.

1/ Let's see the fantasies I can't turn into reality, which make me suffer a lot, a kind of delicious horological pain.

They have a name: The Operas.







Or it is called " Bi Axial Tourbillon ":



2/ A fantasy which I will turn into reality, one day, with a bit of luck: The Tourbillon with gold bridge(s):

I missed this one 2 times, in the past, I hope to get one!



Another target I discovered this year:



A very serious target of mine, the WWTC Tourbillon, which is very high in my wish list:



And a last one, but I have no pictures of it, here, on this computer, a certain Vintage 45 Chrono, in platinum, released circa 2002, which came in a set of 3 Vintage 45, all 3 with a ruthenium dial.

Both of these Vintage 45 came with a delicious Ruthenium dial... I would like to get the Chrono, not the others, though.

I have to find a picture in my other computer, if I can open it...

My nights are filled with those. And I have to agree with you about the Three Gold Bridges Tourbillon. Along with the Journe DS and the Haldimann H1, these are the tourbies of my dreams.

And hearty congratulations on this 40 000 th post. Surely that must be a good omen for the future ownership of one of these beauties!

It can take years, I don't care, a 3 GB Tourbillon from GP ( sorry for the redundance ) is in my perpetual list, and I will end with one.

Now that is what we call determination, n'est ce pas, Andrew?

but my personal favourite one is the 3 gold bridges toubillon house in a vintage 1945 case.  It's just a class act.  If you ask me out of all GP lineup, which GP model line I most prefer, I would have to say the Vintage line.  And if you ask me which GP movement.  Without a doubt, I would say it's the iconic toubillon movement.

The Vintage 45 Tourbillon under one golden bridge, with the ruthenium dial was THE watch which lead me to pay more interest to GP, some 10 years ago...

Since, it is a big love affair with the brand.

One day, maybe, there will be one for you, one for me?

Girard Perregaux was the first Swiss manufacturer to put 36000 bph watches into production in the mid sixties (the Seiko Lord Marvel was developed at concurrently in Japan, GP probably had the earliest commercial introduction).    Here are a few of mine (the ladies model is only 28800 - Seiko retains the distinction of being the only mfg to produce a 36000bph for ladies).     In the 70s GP used hi beat movements in the chunky styles of the period, but that aesthetic (if that word can even be applied to 70s styling) is represented in my collection by other brands.

I have a soft spot for the HF models. Her focused collection is the best I've seen. I have one hand-wind example...

Great example - I haven't seen a stainless handwind before and the markers are wonderful.

Guys, I ordered one last week. Picking up later in the year. Can you please share your experiences with me? I Have been a big sports watch mainly dive watch fan. I have a GP R&D01. It is very accurate and nice. Not my favorite but it has been growing on me. Now I find myself loving classic watches more and more. Maybe I am getter older. Back to Palladium, I will love to find outnhow you like wearing it and if the watch keeps good time. Why did u not pick the gold one? I always found yellow or rose gold too flashy. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on your new purchase.  I actually haven't picked up any palladium pieces for my own collection, but have handled palladium GPs several times.  I generally like palladium watches -- they have a nice heft and color to them, and often the dials are not your typical black or white dials (Case in point: palladium Moser Mayu with fume dial).  I generally like white metal watches best, regardless of whether they are steel, palladium, white gold or platinum.

Yes, it looks absolutely stunning.. Too bad I've got mine already with white dial. Only consolation is that one sure to cost more than mine...

I particularly love the colors of the two Monte-Carlo's and the Sannino-Pompeii is very Interesting with the 60-minute central chronograph minute counter and the sculptured case. Reminiscent of a Panerai and channeling some of the designs of the 1970's. Very cool watch and a practical chronograph.

Of the watches you still own, I would love to see some more photos. Perhaps in a new dedicated thread with some history? You seem to like the Limited Edition pieces and there have been a lot of variants over the years.
