Hello from a cool evening here in the tropics 🌴
On the wrist this evening is my Gen 3 Laureato 8010. Pink gold and steel with the blue dial. This 36 mm diameter darling is one of my favorites. At 7.9 mm thick, it feels luxurious but unobtrusive.
The 8010 was the FIRST Laureato to break away from quartz and have the ultra thin (2.98 mm) in-house automatic GP calibre 3100. It was released as a novelty in 1996 in extremely limited numbers. 700 in full steel and 800 in two-tone were made in total. About 100 in full gold. If you factor in factor dial colors and and other variants, it’s likely that there were less than 100 made of this blue dial to pink gold bezel and bracelet model.
Interestingly, the Laureato 8010 was in the GP catalog for only 5 years. 1995-2000. (And they were not cheap) so the ENTIRE Generation 3 of the Laureato haD approximately 1,600 pieces made in TOTAL.
The hands and indices are in gold. It has water resistance of 100 metres.
🔔 The bracelet and case is made by an Italian jeweller called GTF which was also the maker of cases and bracelets for Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks. AP would go on to eventually purchase GTF and still owns them today.
🔔 Vacheron Constantin collectors may remember that the Generation 1 Overseas shares the same GP calibre 3100 with the Laureato 8010.
🔔 Another interesting piece of trivia is that the current production Laureato 38 mm and the Laureato 8010 both have the same dial size of 27 mm.
I personally find the proportions of the Laureato 8010 to be sublime. I expect it to become a collectors item in the future because of its rarity and also it’s historical important to the Laureato collection which is a “pillar” model within GP . The other pillar for GP is the Bridges collection.
As always, I hope you enjoy the pics and snippets of provenance. Feel free to ask questions or share your thoughts.
