I like this watch very much, but others tell me it looks old. What should I do?

In case something is pleasing your own eye, get it and forget what others say.

If you start to base your style and your taste based on the tastes of others, you will never find yours.

And by the way: L.U.C. 1860 is a watch with a lot of style and charisma. I am considering the same watch.

The AD I have been using for Chopards is still having one with Pt.. case and with two backs. Both the saphire and a Pt.. case back.

The price is very very good - about the same as a golden one is normally costing. The AD ordered two with Pt. cases and my kid brother took the other one and now the shop is waiting for my "verdict" regarding the other.

2 weeks and even put it on.  See if it still appeals to you by the end of that period (regardless of the Pt about the same price as the gold which is very attractive though )

The version you are exploring is the 1860-2.  Please check if the Cal is 1.96 (swan-neck regulator) because I saw in the older catalogue like 5 years ago, there is another version with dial very similar to 1860-2 but with Cal 3.96 .

It's a classic size and dial.  The L.U.C Twist houses the same movement in a larger (41mm), more modern case and dial.  Have you considered it?

already takes lot of confidence.

It is not a brand you see a lot of people wearing it (or even knows it) , and those who wear them tend to be contrarians.

I share the same thoughts as Kari, Jed and Daos. 

A Classic is evergreen, but may be boring.  However, 'exciting pieces' may be dramatic but will fizz out soon.

Perhaps your friends may call you a genius, if the trend is turning to smaller diameter

Ultimately, you are wearing the watch, and may have to see daily for a while, would you like it? 
It is not so much if your friends like it.

...I think it is a timeless piece.  Classic good looks don't equate with "looking old" IMO.  I'm in my early 30s and I would happily wear the L.U.C. 1860 while patting myself on the back for my enduring aesthetic sensibilities.

...wear what you want and dont be bothered by what others say. LUC 1860 is one of the most beautiful watch around.
