Chopard

Hi All!

I've been collecting watches for a few years now, and I'm looking to pick up my 1st gold watch after accumulating largely SS sports watches. I've narrowed imy choices down to these 3 beauties:

1. Chopard LUC Mark III RG "Sunburst" (ref 1905)

2. Breguet WG or YG classique w/ white enamel dial

3. Glashutte Original Meissen in RG

Just wondering If i could seek some views from you more experienced and wise collectors out there? Have any of you owned any of these pieces? I'm currently leaning towards the Chopard as I like the relatively large size for a dress watch (39.5 mm), and the nice mix of classic and modern lines (Kerensky posted a pic of it in another thread). I also think it's pretty good value for money. Another good value for money gold watch I was considering some time back was the Moser Mayu (RG/black dial), but I ultimately felt it was a bit on the small side.

However, the Chopard brand is quite new to me, and I've traditionally associated it with women's jewellery!

In the end, I might still stick to SS and go for the white-dialed IWC Port 5001 7-days. Been eyeing it for ages 

Any advice would be very sincerely appreciated!

I like the look of the Mark III more. I also like the date function. But the Fleurier is a real beauty too. And nice wristshot! It that yours?

 

Firstly Welcome to our PuristsPro Chopard Forum.

I'm pretty surprised to see the other 2 pieces being compared to the L.U.C Mark III RG and I assume you are buying NEW, not pre-owned for the Breguet & GO.

I like all the 3 pieces , each has its own uniqueness.

However, the price point (new) is totally different and quite far a part, comparing to the Mark 3 RG!

In fact the Mark III RG's price is about the same range to the stainless steel IWC Portuguese Automatic 5001. 

I don't know what other to add except for the price you are paying for the Mark 3 RG , it is the fairest , for a gold contemporary piece with an inhouse movement.

I agree with your point. I just received more resolution on the price point from my AD and is certainly seems that it is lower than I was previously given to believe! In fact I heard it can go quite a bit lower than the IWC Port 5001.

I also understand there might be a Chopard price increase VERY soon - hopefully it doesn't affect the LUCs too much :P

I am extremely keen - just wish I could see the watch in the flesh before pulling the trigger

I also share the sentiments of many here that Chopard watches are very underrated.....but I don't think they will stay this way will be for long.

L.U.C has high appeal to people who wish to be understated ( or stealth).
