In 2024, Chopard issued the green version of this watch. 2 years after, the LUC XPS comes with an uber cool Prussian Blue dial, and I must say that this is my favorite from the brand, and one of my favorite from this year, at Watches and Wonders.
I couldn't take photos, as I missed some time to do so, but here are official pictures.
This watch is 40 mm big, and remarkably thin with only 7, 2 mm. Ok, at 38 mm it would be perfect, especially for a 27 mm movement, which seems a bit lost in this case. But, other than that, it is close to perfection.
The case does not lack elegance, the dial is, in this color, a kind of dark blue, eye catching, and to tell you all, I am mad about these hands, much more than the Dauphine hands you have on the LUC 1860 also issued with a blue dial, this year. As for the dial it is made of brass, while the LUC 1860 dial is made of white gold. From the location of the small seconds subdial, you feel that the case is too big for the movement.
LUC XPS:
LUC 1860:
As for the movement, it is small ( 27,2 mm big, 7, 2 mm high as said above ), automatic, with a delicious micro rotor, very nicely finished with all the traditional codes of " fine horology ", such as the Cotes de Genève, perlage and anglages, and it is COSC Certified, with a stop second. The only difference I see with the movement of the LUC 1860 is that it doesn't have the Poinçon de Genève Seal. Both have a 65 hours autonomy.
LUC XPS movement:
So, if I had to make a choice between this LUC XPS and the LUC 1860, it would be the LUC XPS for me: I prefer its dial, its hands, the movement is not a big deal for me, even if I like the Poinçon de Genève a lot, I would have preferred a 2mm smaller case, for sure, but at 12 900 Euros, versus the 28, 200 Euros of the LUC 1860, there is no doubt. I know where my winner is.
Best,
Nicolas
