Chopard

What is it with the second one?

Can you find words that make me understand your option a bit better?

The orbitary moonphase is indeed exquisite.

Thanks for your opinion and best regards,
Kolosstt.

Lack of balance of the dial. I really dislike it. [nt]

A bit different for me...

I like the second best (still smaller size but IMHO nicer dial), followed by the third and the first one I like least.

All three have an exquisite moonphase and the second or the third I would very much like to add to my collection some day.

Keep us posted on your decision and happy hunting!

Dial with two Roman numerals only

Thank your for your opinion KMII,

I was long time favourite for your choice but meanwhile not really clear which one is my favourite.

Why is the platinum least inspiring to you?

Best regards
Kolosstt

It's the dial...

The black and white and the pattern in my eyes makes it dated, rather than timeless. I love the same numerals on the Tech Twist but here do not find them to match with the rest so well...

So nothing to do with the case material smile

Some valid thoughts

As the same design elements would already be reflected in one of my collection pieces.

Are two-tones dial in general a point of question for you or just in this case?

BR, Kolosstt

In this case...

I'm not sure if it is just the black and white but guess that two colours are not a problem per se...

Small sample size, but...

My dad has a Lunar one, and that watch has been sent for repairs about 6-7 times in only 3 years due to power reserve failures, dial issues (a marker came off), etc. Reliability issues have been severe enough that I don't think he wants another Chopard watch.

I think it's probably to do with the offset rotor in the movement.  That would cause complications (hah!) in transferring power to the mechanism that you wouldn't have with a central rotor.

6-7 is too much

 By: kolosstt : May 14th, 2016-10:12
Why do you think the offset rotor might be the cause?
I think that also with a central rotor you have got some gears feeding power to the barrel, isn't it?

Thanks for sharing your input and kind regards,
Kolosstt

That's almost like asking which child do you like best!

I seriously like all three. I've been close to buying the arabica more than once as I have seen some attractive deals pre-owned. I've had the current iteration on my wrist at least a half dozen times and dreamed... I know MTF loves the middle iteration. Clear as mud? smile

What are your thoughts? Do you lean one way?

There is lot of rain over here but mud is still not clear. ;)

Dear Jed,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I was long time favourite of the middle iteration. The layout with two Roman numerals is simply extraordinary to me. Also here the dial is well made.
Yet, the latest Perpetual Chrono release has reminded of the beauty this design of guilloche dial that can be find on the platinum casing. As there is no PC and no platinum in my collection yet, it looks like a fit.
For the newest model, the changed font, favourite hands and the applied indices are the highlights to me. On the other side, I feel that the dial is least exciting.

As you can see, I'm not there yet. Though I'm pretty much sure that it will be pre-loved.

If you would have to decide tomorrow, which one would you go for?

Best regards, Kolosstt

If I had to choose tomorrow

II would pick Romans.

I'm biased but have some objective reasons too..

The Mk.1 models had a different case construction with more mass.

The Mk.2 cases were designed during a period of volatile precious metal costs. Even if the diameter is larger, less metal is used.

Thus, the feel is different on the wrist.

The movement in both versions is still excellent with semi-instantaneous changing displays at midnight.

The large Roman numerals at position 4 and 8 are iconic for Chopard.

Good luck,
MTF

Are you suggesting Mk2 is lighter than Mk1?

 By: kolosstt : May 14th, 2016-21:40
We see couple of LUC models with a small number of Roman hour markers (1,2 or 3). None of them is as appealing to me as the Lunar One.

What made you go for it? - does it get lots of wrist time?
What was the criteria to win the PuristS Prize?

Kind regards,
