The beauty and the strenght of of a very early Fifty Fathoms, through a few pictures.

The question is: Early Fifty Fathoms Rotomatic Incabloc, or Early Milspec?

1953, for the first one ( slightly onwards ) or 1958 for the Milspec?

The Rotomatic Incabloc:









While the Rotomatic Incabloc plays an understated card, very close to a Rolex Submariner from the same era, the Milspec has an unique presonality, more demonstrative, exhuberant, warmer ,too.







Among these 2, I have a preference for the Milspec, especially this one which has a nice story.

But it is always a pleasure to admire a clean early Fifty.

the Milspec hands down wins my vote! The moisture indicator puts another aspect onto an otherwise blander dial.

This Milspec...

Needless to describe my feeling... But the story ended well, as it took me one year to find a correct set of hands, thanks to a good friend of mine who gifted them to me!

Wasn't it the International Geophysic Year? The Universal Fair in Bruxelles, une fois?  The release of the JLC Gephysic? One of the production year of the Tudor 7924, aka Big Crown?  And the year of so many things... Or... Births...

the Milspec 1 IS my favorite watch, and without a doubt, it is the iconic fifty fathoms,

However, as you say, there is also something truely beautiful about the very simple rotomatic incabloc dial that has something...

its a bit like the early Submariner, versus the early Explorers. Its nice to have the icon, but the predecessors in the chain of events that led to it also hold the many of the key incrediants that led to the icon!

Of these two, I go for the rotomatic. (and it's purely because I don't have one!! LOL! )

I am running after a 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 dial, too... which is one gorgeous Vintage FF version, too.

The moisture indicator is magic, for sure, but a clean dial is really something. Quiet, calm,  clean, sober... A rest for the eyes, food for the brain.

are you sure, it is not a re-print? the Rotomatic and Incabloc print does not look right to me.... but you should know; having it handled. both are excellent watches and i think it not that difficult, to find the right hands for the milspec. kind regards. achim
