At the moment, circa year 2000, it was a surprising and very original watch!

Then came the 50 th Anniversary, and the FF in 2007...

spent the better part of whole year buying chronos...PP 5070, which i sold to finance purchase of a JLC doumetre and a VC Malte chrono, plus GO panograph and several other chronos like Chronoswiss monopusher etc. now i have shifted to diver's watches.

this may sound silly, but the broad idea developed from booking of the new Omega Ploprof, whcih will be delivered next week. i then booked a vintage 1970s ploprof, with wire mesh strap as well. by chance i stumbled into buying a Rolex DSSD, and now looking for a old sea dweller. 2 good mates actually owned the FF, but with resources running low, i was looking around for a pre=owned FF, and someone suggested i take a look at the FF concept 2000 which i am told cost less then the latest rendition of the FF, thus the question here. btw, i have also just bought a 1970s FF with the radiation logo at 6.

that completes my unholy 6. and was also thinking of doing some sort of review on all of them, with a focus on the history and romance , not to mention the development of those watches since. plus a ton of pictorial studies.

 

 

I play a lot, too, as I love making links between Present and Past...

I did and still do it with Vintage JLC diving watches, with the FFs, the Longines, and Rolex, too.

Therefore, the diving thema is a stroy without end, as you will always find a watch you don't already have, or you didn't suspect it was that interesting....

The more you dig, the more you ...dive!

yeah, truth be told. there is some thematic thing to the whole excercise. and also reality is divers watches are on a relative scale more affordable then collecting chronos or calenders etc. not to mention, with some military exposure, and thus tons of references and history, prob more fun. perhaps with exception of pilot watches.

 

any suggestions to add to the diving range to collect, other then the JLC polaris?

If you don't want to psend that much money, go and have an eye on the super compressor watches, lie the Longines Diver, for example, or the Universal Geneve Polerouter sub...

If you can spend more, you may also consider other FFs Vintage, they are so dangerously appealing!

An IWC Ref 812 would be an excellent choice, too.

A JLC Vintage like the Deep Sea Alarm, or the Master Mariner Deep Sea are much more affordable than the Polaris, and offer a lot of pleasure...

An Omega Sea Master 300 is to die for, too and would be a very friendly companion to your Ploprofs!

So many choices and possibilities!!!

thanks for your suggestion. think i will stop at these 6 first, before proceding. quickie question, whats with the radiation logo at 6 for some 70s FFs? which FF is the most "collectable" and what sort of price range?

Without any doubt:

The Air Command ( around 30 000 USD )

The Tornek Rayville ( TR 900 ), around 23 000 USD.

These are 2 Cult Watches!

But you also have sme very strong and exciting whoices among the Milspecs, the Lip Blancpain, or the Early FFs...

Have a " walk " on our Blancpain forum, and you'll see!

By the way, this is not a Radiation Symbol, but a no radiation logo, at 6, on some 70ies FFs.

That meant that these watches were not considered as radioactive...Which sounds strange, because tritium was used for the indexes and hands, of course less radioactive than the radium, but radioactive...

Nicolas, i actually asked Flamy before i turned to the forum, and its him and another who owns the FF that ignited my initial interest, but as always with grand ideas(or in some illusions of granduer...), the purchase iof the ploprof kick started the vintage versus their modern counterparts thing.

Once you're into the Vintage Bug...It is difficult to resist!



Yuo should make a comparative pic of the Vintage and the modern Ploprof, as Bill did.

thats part of the plan. but really wanna do the comparison between the 70s vintages, follow by their modern counterparts....thats i guess is the end game, and also scratch the collecting itch.
