Blancpain

Hi all/Nicolas,

I have been looking to get a Fifty Fathom recently in RG.
Fortunately, or unfortunately depending how you look at it !, I have been offered several other watches which is now making life difficult!

I wish I could buy them all but I need to be sensible for once ;-)

My options are a:

1)   FF in RG
2)   FF 50th anniversary
3)   FF SS +  vintage radiation model
4)   FF SS + vintage rotobloc model

or a different combination of course! (I can only choose one option at the moment)

I feel the Fifty Fathom is one of the most stunning watches ever produced so this makes it much harder to choose!

Expert advice from the Blancpain PuristS would be welcome.

i was never really a blancpain person until i saw the fifty fathoms. I have always liked them but nothing really made me get that feeling to just go for it. I am sure you all know exactly the feeling i am talking about. So i pulled the trigger and bought the fifty fathoms rose gold straight time. I really like it it looks awesome. I also like the chrono in rose gold but they had this one in stock and i did not feel like waiting. It is also really comfortable.

but i am going to say that you should just go with your heart.

if i were you, i would pick either the new RG FF or the 50th Anniversary FF.  The former for the new movement and RG case; the latter for rarity.  i personally feel that from a value point of view, the RG is a better option of the two.

Why? What do you mean exactly? ...?

My personal vote would be Nr. 3.

Nicolas is on holiday at the moment, but I think we all know that he is not a big fan of the FF in RG and his choice was FF Anniversary.

So, now it is up to you ...

... since I have discovered the Fifty Fathoms I have fallen in love with it. Its simplicity and beautiful proportions. There's no over styling going on to make a statement.

And now delving in to the history of the piece I have uncovered a whole world of stunning watches!

As with most things this addictive there has to be some self restraint otherwise I'd buy them all! LOL.

So as with the others, thanks for your comments and I hope there are more to come.

for the stainless steel 50 Fathoms: the closest to the original (but read Nicolas' post 'Blancpain FF: Original and Re Edition watches' further below!), a true tool (as intended), not a fashion watch or one compromised with weak (and thus questionable) materials like gold.

I thought the new Blancpain was too big. Awesome watch but too large.

 

Thanks for the posting such a great pic they're superb watches, it makes me even keener to get into the FFs!

I have a Royal Oak Offshore and a Big Bang so I'm used to having some size on my wrist LOL!

I'd go on a FF 50th Anniversary + a No Rad FF, or a FF Milspec...

But the new version is very appealing, too, and I still conider buying it in SS, and hunting a Blancapin Lip FF with the same indexes to make the pair...

It may be a nice solution for you, my friend...

The 50th Anni more than the RG version so I can only go for one at the mo.

I love vintage. buy the vintage radiation model.

...are superb, the Aqua Lung models being my faves, but the rotomatic Incabloc has to be my all time FF. There isn't a single detail on it that shouldn't be there, the purity of design is sublime ;-) I need to get one!

I think the choice is obvious as the new style watch has improved and exclusive movement and the markers are more streamlined though I really prefer they issue the san date version or have the date window at 3. But as I really love the watch and I do not think they will make the desired changes in the foreseeable future I still took the plunge.

A superb watch, be sure to post pics when you can.

I'm still 'negotiating' on a 50th Anniversary FF ;-)

If you can find one? I notice there are a lot of RG version at my ADs. I love the weigh and the look. But is it worth more than double the ss version?

 

I'm waiting on the SS version myself from my local AD.

The LE  released in 2003, and very rare and sold out since a long time, as Blancpain made 3 series of 50 pieces, one for the USA ( Series I ) one for Europe ( Series II ) and one ofr Asia ( Series III ).

Not the same than the release of the FF in 2007, which can be find in RG or in SS.

And yes, the new FF, the one released in 2007, is really a nice, very nice watch, but maybe I prefer it in SS, than in RG?

I'm with you Marcus on the FFs.

I've tracked down a couple of 50th Anniversary FFs and they are about the same cost as the RG versions!

So... is a SS 50th Anni really worth more than double a standard SS FF?

Now that's a question!
