Audemars Piguet

I have enjoyed this special watch for a few days. My experience so far has been very gratifying. This is my first Audemars Piguet and it is also my first perpetual calendar. For some time my grail was the PP 5140, and when I decided to go for the perpetual I changed my mind on the basis of wearability and the 2120 caliber, which has been one of my grails for years.

My collection is modest and I am building it slowly. I am a chronometer enthusiast, but the imperceptible and relentless progression of a perpetual calendar without a seconds-hand has been a revelation. Without a doubt, my absolute favorite complication.

This watch is comfortable, discreet, sporty, intricate and reliable.The level of finish is excellent. The dial has circular engraving. The moon phase is gorgeous and it has a nice contrast with the dark blue dial.

I am posting a couple of pictures quickly taken this afternoon after a long day at work.

I can not describe the calm satisfaction that brings me wearing this unassuming steel watch.

I took another way, when considering getting a Perpetual Calendar, but yes, this RO was very high in my list.

More elegant than sporty, this watch is unbelievable.

I started with an IWC Da Vinci PC Rattrapante....

I lost it after a scam...

I wanted to replace it with the AP, but Fate decided to lead me on another way.

So, I went for the U.N PC GMT....

And I added the JLC skeleton perpetual.

I sold the U.N to a good friend, and won't let go the JLC, except if I can find a solution to get the Gyro I, which is, to me, the king of the PCs...



I had your PC stuck in my mind for a long time, by the way...

I am very fond of this particular RO Perpetual Calendar too.

Is yours Ref: 25820ST.O.0944ST.04?

I am considering the dark blue (05, more sporty) and white (03, more legible) dial.

I tried both on separate occasions and like both, even though I almost always prefer darker dials.

Can you share how did you decide on this dial color?

Although the colour balance in the photos is not perfect, this watch is reference 05 (Cosmos Blue).

I agree it is more sporty and, as Nicolas put it, also quite elegant. On this occasion I do not mind -as a matter of fact I almost prefer- a compromise on legibility.

I too think the steel looks more interesting with the darker dial.

I tried on the 05 and it looked somewhat darker.

I agree with you that the darker dial looks more interesting, on steel cases.

The AP website lists both as 'blue' , but I thought the -05 was a darker color of blue and more dark greyish.  hmmm, interesting.

Hi ED. The second photo from my original post better reflects the true color of the dial.

You are right about the AP website. I too was confused by their photographs -as reference 05 appears more grey and reference 04 more blue-. I asked the page from their catalogue to be scanned and sent over to double check.

As you can see, in the paper catalogue the photographs for references 04 and 05 are reversed in relation to the website. The more grey of the two is reference 04. The colors are correct on the paper catalogue, as in the picture below.

Personally, I am a huge fan of the Patek Philippe 5140. The 5140 is my favorite perpetual calendar watch. However, despite my loyalty to the 5140, I am very much intrigued about your Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar.

Congratulations upon the acquisition of a fantastic watch!

... though, admittedly, a little bit unfaithful, to 5140.

However, as days go by with this Royal Oak my appreciation for this watch has increased. Usability is a very strong point from my perspective, and with my lifestyle the AP comes on top in this department. I find it also very comfortable and understated.

...the 5140 on my PC list in terms of 'wear-ability'. As much as I still think the 5140 is the most classically Perpetual, it is just too small on the wrist. I tried on a white dial over the weekend and I must say, it needed the wife's help to come off!
