Hoping to get some expert opinions on a couple questions about the dial on the SS version of the Master Eight Days:

1) Does it feature a brushed sunburst finish, or is it more like a matte, satin finish?

2) Does the small seconds dial feature guilloche in the form of concentric circles?

My confusion stems from the fact that when I've seen this watch in the metal, the dial seemed to have a satin finish with no noticeable sunburst finish. However, I've noticed that in a few macro photos that I've seen on the web, there does seem to be a brushed, sunburst finish.

Has the dial finish varied from year to year or from watch to watch on the SS Master Eight Days, or is the brushed sunburst finish not that noticeable to the naked eye and only shows up in closeup photos? Also, is the finish on the dial the same on both the SS and RG versions of the M8D?

Sorry to go into so much detail; just trying to get a handle on this great watch, as I've been very interested in acquiring one for some time.

AFAIK, there was no change on the finish of the Master 8 Days.

On the RG version, the dial has a sunburst finish, as you can see on this bad picture taken with a flash:

On the SS, I think ( not sure ) that the dial has a sunburst finish, too:

The thing is that I don't have good quality pictures of this model, so it will be difficult for me to go deeper in the details, but if you saw this kind of finish in some macros, then I highly doubt that the dial of the Master 8 days has varied.

The thing is that  this kind of detail is noticeable in some light conditions ( strong light, like sun or flash, for example ).

If you find one, ask your seller to provide you some good macros.

This borders on blasphemy, so please don't send the Spanish Inquisition! Nicolas, I think you posted a picture of the Platinum version and not the SS one... the 'poor man's version' has a different day/night indication (whereby I prefer the SS one!), please see on my version (apologies for the extremely lousy pictures!).

As far as I know, only black dials within the Master Series don't have the sunburst finish (unfortunately!). I tried to make them visible on my photos... So Dan, either you've seen another special edition (which has a 'matt' dial) or the pictures couldn't catch the real beauty of the dial. Furthermore, the small second hand subdial should have concentric rings, yes.

A beautiful watch, from both dial and movement side! Everything's just 'right'!

I checked, and the normal SS version, the one with the silver dial, has a sunburst finish.

Yes, the Ruthenium dial on the SS Boutique Edition is really stunning!

Here's one in stainless with a black dial.
It's a matte finish dial and does have concentric circles on the subseconds dial.
The day/night indicator is in English as well.

Many thanks for the detailed responses and for the beautiful macros, and especially to Amanico for being able to go right to the source for information.

I'm happy to learn that the SS regular production model also features the sunburst dial, as that's one of the little finishing touches that really helps define the watch. I've also noticed a version in SS with silver dial but with a different small seconds dial: hash marks for the individual seconds and with a "60" at 12 o'clock and a "30" at 6 o'clock (just like the Cellini SE, but with a silver dial and silver hands and hour markers). I've seen this version both at an AD and offered for sale on a couple of different online forum boards ... confusing as it's not a SE, but is also different than the regular production model that is usually seen.

The boutique edition has given me more than a few sleepless hours trying to decide between it and the regular production model: I love the contrast between the silver hands and markers and that beautiful anthracite dial. All the hands being the same color (instead of the blue PR and seconds hands on the regular model) give it an added elegance which I find very nice.

Hope to acquire this beautiful watch in the near future, as I understand that it is now an endangered species!
