Last year came 2 Grande Reversos, the 976 ( which borrowed its name to the Calibre ), and the Reverso 986 Duodate.

The 976 had a very simple aesthetic, which can now be seen as a premonition of the lreleases of this year, with new and appealing dimensions.

The 986 Duodate was bigger and larger.

So, when I saw the Grande Reverso Duo coming, I was a bit suprised, and wondered if, in fact, it wasn't a bit of both the 976 and 986.

It is.

It takes the front and back dials of the 986, but it borrows the case of the 976 ( 48, 5 mm ).

It is even less large than this last one ( 0, 5 mm less, 29, 5mm instead of 30 mm ), and it is equally thick.

It also takes the same movement, the Cal 986.

To be honest I much prefer this Grande Reverso Duo to the 986, due to its more harmonious proportions.

On the black dial, the Night and Day is showing Day as 12-24 and Night as 24-12. Wish they would rotate the dial 90 degree clockwise so that Day would show 6-18 instead. Added bonus: The number 6 will be exactly where it is suppose to be on the larger dial

But if you follow the half circle pattern in white, wouldn't "Day" be 6-18? Tracing the sun from rising to setting hours?

Or are you referring against the "Day" text instead?

Yes, i am referring to the text. Notice on the 986 duodate it was Hometime instead of Night and Day

In my eyes, the purpose is fulfilled even if the old Duo in GT size was already  nice watch.

But I have to agree – this is not one of my favourite Reverso.

 

Maybe because some of the other Reverso’s presented at SIHH was more exciting…

 

Maybe because when you see it in photos it doesn’t feel new…

 

I get the feeling – “I have seen this before…” or “Dejavue…”

 

Maybe when I see this one in the metal my opinion will change, but I doubt it…

The problem is that this Grande Reverso Duo has to face so many beauties, this year...

But I'm sure it will find its place, as it offers a complication that theothers don't.

I like the new Duo. The size works better than the 986. Anyhow I still think that the Grande GMT has more appeal, not only for the 8-day power reserve complication but also in terms of pure aesthetics. I am bit surprised to see that, with the interruption of the production of the Grande GMT, there are no more Reversos with the 8-day power reserve. Having had a Reverso Grande Date I truly appreciated this complication.

I waited for the SIHH 2011 to see what new models were presented but, since I am interested in a Reverso with dual time, I am still more oriented towards the Grande GMT even if it is not in production anymore. I will start searching a new one.

And  I guees that it will be also housed in the Grande Reverso.

The 8 Days movement is so JLC!
