Took delivery of the new JLC Navy Seals last week - no worries about brute strength there, but I'm thinking of adding a Polaris 68, but I'm a bit concerned about the robustness of the piece. I've got a big family with lots of kids and a rather active lifestyle, so I'm not in a position to baby/worry about my time pieces.

How tough is the Polaris 68? Is it suitable for everyday wear and tear?

Some nice photos on different straps or on wrist would be nice to help inspire me as well!

Do a search ( use the key word Tribute To Polaris 68, as I assume you're speaking about the Vintage, not the original ), and you will find a lot of posts about straps.

I've tested it in rough conditions last summer, and no problems: I had water activities with it, I've even immerged it in a glass of beer, you can even make some thin hairlines on the plexy, you can polish it...

So, no problems.

Now, avoid to hit the plaexy on a stone, wall, ground, table .... As the plexy is not resisting to every thing, but you have a spare plexy in the box, just in case...

...as one of my daily wear watches.  I decided that since I believe all of my watches are to be worn, I need to wear this one as often as I like and whenever I like. It is a tool watch and it is meant to be worn.   It was designed for rougher activities than normal daily life would involve, so why worry about it?   It holds up just fine. 

As Nicolas mentioned above, the plexy crystal is the weak point, but minor scratches can be buffed out, and JLC was kind enough to provide a spare in the box in case of real damage. 

All that said, i would not submerge MINE in a glass of beer, but our fearless Moderator is, well, fearless. ;-)

The two tributes to Polaris 65 and 68 are both marvelous watches.

My TTP 68 is a nice sturdy watch, though the strap is crap. The strap is the watch's weakest point.

I agree that you shouldn't try to bang the plexi against a wall even if JLC provides a replacement.

I am hoping that Santa Claus will bring me a TTP 65 for Xmas.

Yes, the love affair has not only lasted but deepend.  It fits really well within my quite small collection, and I just love wearing it.   In fact, I am wearing it right now.  Just took my dog to the park to play fetch with the Pola on my wrist. Dog and Pola both trusty companions and both ready for action.

I agree with the above comments for the tribute to polaris.  The watch is light, lugs are relatively short and the prominent domed plexi crystal usually takes any of the impact.  Polywatch takes out any of the light scratches and I even have a small gouge on the plexi crystal from an unforeseen ding that I couldn't rub out but is nearly invisible (except to the person who dinged it - me).  Good to have a spare in the box.

The strap that came with the watch is crap.  It fell apart after 6 months of occasional wear, just pieces of glued-together vinyl, which was the biggest disappointment with the watch...A nice rubber strap or a leather would have been much better, especially for an expensive watch. 

But the Polaris is solid, it is beautiful, iconic and meant to be worn and enjoyed every day.

The tribute '68 is a tough steel watch - not in need of any babying in my experience.  Agree with the comments on the strap, albeit I have been too lazy to change mine; it will fall apart sometime this season I expect.  I've not found that the plexiglass is a scratch magnet at all - in fact it's quite a nice alternative to saphire - seems less likely to shatter under active use.  Finally, as already noted, it does go well with beer and summer but can be an all season wearer!

p.s. It has a presence on the wrist and so can bump into things (including the kids) a bit.  The alarm is a useful complication.
