Hi All,

New to the forums here JLC has always been one of the watches I wanted to get for my small, but slowly growing collection. Recently I have purchased a Panerai PAM 233, and I was thinking about getting an AP ROO next, but I have now been drawn to more 'collectible' items such as the PAM 127, PAM 249, and a couple of JLC watches I will discuss below.

To the JLC watches, there are 2 watches that caught my eye. The first is the MEMOVOX Tribute to Polaris. The second is the AVMOX1. Now I understand that the Memovox Tribute to Polaris was a limited edition to 768. Not sure about the AVMOX1, any insight? I understand that these watches are no longer in production, and I am trying to source them from a collector in Singapore, hopefully I get lucky.

Anyhow on to my question. Could you guys let me know what makes the MEMOVOX tribute as well as the AVMOX1 so special? I love the look of the watches. I have fairly big wrists so the 42mm diameter would be just right! Do you guys have any preferences or suggestions, and would the Polaris be more of a collectors item than the AVMOX1 several years down the line?

I own an AMVOX1, SS, and I'm very happy with this watch. See my two month report: click here.

I consider the AMVOX1 "on pair" with the Polaris (The tribute) with one advantage that is the sapphire crystal, compare with the plastic one from the Polaris, because I'm very clumsy and I scratch a plastic crystal on a matter of minutes.

In respect to your question about being a collector item, the Polaris has more history than the AMVOX1.

Of course there are here people with much more JLC "mileage" that can help you more.

- The Amvox 1 is a reinterpretation of the Polaris, and was a limited production ( 2005 / 2008 ).

I can't give you the numbers of Amvox I produced during these 4 years, as I don't have them.

- The Tribute To Polaris 68 was released in 2008, in a limited edition of 768 pieces ( 65 pieces in SS for the  TPP 65, and 165 in platinum ).

The TTP is a re edition of the original model, very close to the original.

Between these 2, let your heart speak, not your wallet, and you will make the good choice.

By the way, you can't go wrong with any of these 2 watches, as they both are excellent choices.

I agree with both Nilo and Nicolas, as they point out there is some differences on these two even if they look very alike.

 

The most obvious is the plexi vs the crystal, but also the movements on these.

 

The TTP has the quick set date function which I highly appreciate!

If you have an older (pre-TTP) it’s a real hustle to set the date if your memo been off wrist for some time…

 

As Nicolas say; “ you can't go wrong with any of these 2 watches, as they both are excellent choices ”…

 

There is only one small hitch – If you get one, this will only feed your desire to have the other one as well (and their sisters)!

 

 

When it comes to collectable – from my point of view they both are.

Because I love them both very much!

For me, collectable=what I love or like very much!

 

My wish list is far too long and budget too tight as it is…

but no one can say if either will prove to be collectable in the future.  The Pola is a re-edition of a very collectable, iconic watch from teh '60s.  But will that make the Tribute to Polaris collectable???  No one knows.  I thin it took the original quite some years before it was considered collectable, and who would have predicted that happening when it first came out? 

You have to try on both of these watches to know why they are so special.  For me, these were THE two modern alarm watches to consider and it was a tough choice until the choice was made for me, or so it seems. You cannot go wrong with either one if they speak to you.  If at all possible, get both!
