I don't think so.
The size is different, but close, ( 41 mm versus 42 for the IWC, if I'm not wrong ), but the IWC looks much bigger,n due to the aperture of the dial.
BUT the most important difference is that on the JLC, the 8 Days is a manual movement,, and the level of finish is higher.
But, if you already own an IWC 7 Days, it is true that getting 2 of the same complication is maybe not the best choice.
So, let's have an eye on your other options:
1/ Master Calendar: Try to get the former version, if you want a thinner one, and, personally, I prefer it to the current one.
2/ Master Control: YEP! You will have an elegant watch, linked to JLC's History ( the Vintage Ref was nothing else than the ..Geomatic! ), and you will be able to use it in everyday situations.
3/ Even dressier, the RDM. Another excellent choice, very " retro " looking, nicely made, with some lovely details such as the heated blue hands..
With each if the 3 above, you can't go wrong...It is just up to you, now, to try them all, and to make up your mind.

The movement in the RDM and Master Control won't be an important criteria, at the moment of the choice, as they are close.
What will make the difference, IMO, will be the difference in size between these 2 watches.
Smaller, the RDM is also thinner, and it is obvious when you put them side by side.
As thinness seems to be important for you, the RDM will be the good choice.
If the clean dial is THE criteria, the MC is the one for you.
Try them both!

I am having a tough time deciding between a few watches and would love your suggestions...
i originally wanted the master eight days but then realized its too similar to my iwc 7 day automatic.
then i thought i wanted the master calendar and while i love this watch, i decided that i wanted a thinner watch to wear under my dress shirts.
that has led me to either the master control or the smaller reserve de march (as i think the dualtime while i like the design and look of the watch has a feature on it that i just wont use at all)...
any thoughts on the benefits or negatives of either of those watches? thank you very much!

what i meant about the master eight and the iwc 7 days is that their primary complication is the same so i'd rather not buy one that is the same and eventually get something nicer down the road.
i would like a thinner watch (i happen to like the face of the new calendar better than the old but its too thick for me to get). so that is why i have narrowed it down to the control vs rdm. i'll have to try on the rdm as its 37mm and might be too small and too crowded on the face but i do love the look of it as i do love the master control.
any thoughts on the movement of each and any other tidbits you can share?

DualTime?
Nicolas, what are your thoughts on the DualTime compared to the RDM? I tried on the master control and it just didnt look good on my wrist but they didnt have the RDM in stock to compare...

I think the master calendar is too thick for my dress shirts, but what are your thoughts and suggestions for the master calendar and dual time? benefits/negatives? all help is much appreciated.

I can't assist with the others you mention but I can admit to being a very happy owner of the RDM. I have a 68 Polaris and a Grand Taille also, of these three I believe the RDM to be my nicest dress watch and the one I tend to wear most with a suit.... I love the blued hands as Nicolas mentions and the complication is worthy of comparison with watches of far more expensive prices in my view.
