I've seen wrist shot after wrist shot, glamour photo after glamour photo, and never developed any passion for the good ol' RDM.  I always thought the subdials looked a little awkward, with strange proportions and odd placement.

Well, I was wrong.  But I needed to own one and wear it to get the message.  Very elegant, yet also kind of sporty.  Beautiful case size and proportions.  And the subdials don't throw me off anymore.  Who would have thought? 

I picked this up today from the most unlikely of places.  If you want to know, feel free to PM me.  I happened to have this strap around, and think it does a nice job contrasting with and setting off the dial.  Now---I've got some real decisions to make.  This one joins forces with a Master Black Geo from the same era.

Yeah, I love the RDM. Got mine with a silver dial, but this black dial is something special my friend! You are absolutely right about those proportions; real classy. And I love the hands of this watch. The subdials never bothered me, I think the dial is very balanced. I know something next for your your journey; how about a 37 mm black dial perpetual date huh? Or even better, the black dial Grande Memovox. This is going to be some journey my man.

Looks great – I must say I prefer the black dial on the RDM.

So much going on, on the dial – in silver it tends to blur IMO.

Black gives it more contrast.

Tan croco, nice – that’s the way JLC presented the black dialled RDM back in 2000.

 

Next in line – Master Moon?

Thanks for your comments, Blomman.  I think I must relax for a while.  I owned a rose gold Master Moon at one point but foolishly gave it up.  I think I was afraid of the eventual servicing tariff!  I would like to find a first generation Master Geo at some point.  But no hurry.  One must appreciate what one has.  The striving can disrupt the enjoying!  Best, Ken

I ordered my RDM (silver dial) couple weeks ago and I am waiting for it to arrive anytime soon!! I can't wait to receive mine!

Btw, what strap is that? is that OEM? Love the strap as well!

Thanks for your comments.  I don't recall where I picked up the strap, but whenever I see one for sale, I grab it.  Can't have too many spares!  Best of luck with your new RDM.  It's interesting that this is the only 37mm model from the older range that JLC continues to produce.  Ken

... hi Ken, this is very stunning watch. for me i find the dial is actaully quite balanced with three small sub-dials, it looks so good on black rather than on silver.

it is interesting that JLC likes a wine, you should taste a bit, leave it to expose to air a while, then taste it again, you feel it differently...

Same as one earlier comment, i would probably prefer to waer it on a black croco strap. But then...there is something about diversity.
