Well, I have had my share of luck today. I found a black Master Control Memovox. I cannot believe my luck.

Does anyone know (here's looking at you, Amanico...) the history of this watch....years of production, numbers produced, which calibre, variations, etc.?

I sincerely apologize for the really bad photos - still on my Learner's permit...;-)

Congraulations!  A Black Memovox with the display caseback to boot .  Hard tobeat.  Where did you find it?

I have been looking for this watch here, in 'competing' foras and on the webpages of a lot of reputable dealers without any luck.

Suddenly it turned up on a local Danish site (vintageure.dk) - and even better, the seller was located right next door to my office....imagine the odds ;-)

First of all, let me congratulate you, and tell you that I'm really envious, as this is one of these modern Memovoxes I hunt...

I didn't end with the Memovoxes, Claus, it is an endless topic, and I have to do some searches before posting something ..." Serious ".

So, I will make it short, here, if you allow me.

The Memovox came back in the Catalogue in the mid 90ies, first with a silver dial, and maybe for the 3 last years, with this gorgeous Black Dial ( 1999 - 2002, but I have to check this ).

It belongs to this beautiful series called Master Black ( RDM, Perpetual Calendar, Géographique ).

The Memovox houses a Cal 914, which is the rebirth of the hand wound Vintage Memo ( Cal 910 ) which was used till 1979, but with a suspended gong, in a 36 mm case.

This is the only Memo to use a sapphire case back, too.

So, to me, it is a very nice and interesting Memovox, one of those pieces to include in a Memovox Collection.

And, as you noticed, the writing on the disk is great...

that I am in possession of the beginnings of a 'Black Memovox' collection as I do have a Polaris, a Master Compressor Memovox, an NSA ('original LE edition without etchings...') and now the Master Control Memovox....

BUT, I know I'm up against a formidable themed collection somewhere in Paris in the hands of a certain legal eagle...But as the saying goes (I think): imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ;-)

The inspiration you found came from my brother's watch. I was the one with the Polaris '68 ;-) It was a great day with the Master Class and then the Reverso Triptyque. Unforgettable.

Let's see about the two watches you mention - I got the feeling that it might become a bit more difficult to fulfill the ambition of a Deep Sea and an E855...

As for the Deep Sea Alarm, things are a bit more complicated...Not to say almost impossible if we speak about the European version.

Congratulations, Claus, on this acquisition..."still water runs deep" Master Memovox!!!

It took me almost 2 darn years to, at the end of the day, be with...The watch has been serving me as a monthly wear for almost 4 years to date.

This "still water runs deep" Master Memovox is still oh-so-nice to me in several aspects...psychedelically!

I can certainly see what you mean. It is a very normal-looking 'undercover' watch - until you turn it around and get to look at the alarm function. That's why I like it so much.

Great pictures, by the way. I hope to be able to shoot such pictures at some point....around 2093 maybe ;-)

I love this watch. It was my first JLC (and I still have it).

They made:

- 1164 pieces with black dial in steel on strap (among these yours and mine).
- 64 pieces with black dial steel on steel
- 217 pieces with black dial in pink gold on strap
- 225 pieces with silver dial in pink gold on strap
- 269 pieces with silver dial in steel on steel
- 136 pieces with silver dial in steel on strap.

...that these were made in such low numbers.  I owned a black on steel for a while, and of course gave it up.  Another heartbreak after seeing these pics.  Ken in NYC

this is the model i would die for, (although i'd settle for a steel back and silver dial). to actually be able to see the gong being struck is something to dream about.

Many congrats, the black dial with display back is just awesome.

 

I am looking for one without success for a long time now, ‘temporary’ settled previously for an Amvox1 and now the Master Reveil but they are just not the same.

 

I didn’t know that very few of these were made, esp the black steel on steel which I prefer, I would've definitely pounced on an excellent black on strap that was available if I am aware of that.

The week-end is coming and will allow me to experiment a bit more. One aim is to upgrade my pictures from 'atrocious' to at least 'nice' or 'could be worse' ;-)
