I am thinking about a classic JLC dress watch; my question: Reverso Classique/Grand Taille or Master Ultra Thin (34mm). Your opinions on both would be highly appreciated.

In both cases, you have Dressy, vey elegant, and timeless watches.

One, the Reverso, is a monument, in the watch world, with its reversible case.

The other, the MUT, is a sophisticated watch, some say complicated as they consider the Ultra Thin movement as a complication.

The MUT is 4,2 mm thick its movement is 1, 85 mm thick...

The Cal 849 is also a very nicely finished caliber.

Tough decision, my friend, indeed!

Since you can't say yes to both, I'd say Go for the Reverso.

Seriously, it will depend on your collection:

I don't remember if you laready own a Squadra.

If yes, do you want to make a kind of thematic collection ( the original ( the classic ) and the last evolution ( the Squadra ) ) ?

If you don't own a Squadra, and only round watches, then go for the Reverso ( Classique or GT, but I highly recommend you to try them both in the lfesh, to be sure that the size won't be a problem with the Classic ).

I guess that at the end, your wrsit will tell you which one of them will definitely land on it, because you can't go wrong with any of these 2...

Since you are aking for opinions...

Both are beautiful and classic looking, but for me there are other more interesting Reversos that would still be classic looking while offering more interesting complications and that I personally would find more fulfilling.  I can certainly see selecting this or some other Reverso because it is both an iconic design,beautiful and may add an alternative to your round watches. Hence I would really like to get a Reverso some day, but I am holding out for the right one and not rushing this decision.

On the other hand, there is very little that is more interesting than the MUT.  It is a PERFECT classic design housing a brilliant movement.  If I could manage its size, which is just a bit small for me (and trust me I have tried this one on), I would have one. It is beautiful, and it offers you a pure example of the ultra thin genre, perhaps the very best ultra thin there is. You can't believe how incredibly thin and sublime the MUT is untilyou try it on. There is something about the simplicity of the dial as well that is just so compelling.  I think most untrained observers will recognize it as a beautiful watch, yes, but very few will understand how special the MUT is -- it will be your little secret. 

It's a far cry fromthe EWC, but both are pure JLC, don't you think?

I think you have a Squadra HT, so in that case, if it were me, I would definitely go for the MUT as you already have a beautiful Reverso.

hi David, i first had my master hometime, then i got my master ultra thin, but eventually i went on to get my grande taille. so, your answer will be very simple, you will eventually go for all... LOL stefan

Yes, I do own  a Squadra HT and I am very pleased with it. What I am thinking of now is a pure dress watch, very simple, no complications. I have to admit I am very taken by the MUT and because I already own a Reverso, that would probably fit the bill more than a Reverso Classique/GT. That said, I do like Stefan's suggestion and I have to say that in the years to come, I can see me JLC collection heading only in one direction!!

yes, we can get all these timepieces one by one in long run.

at this moment, since you have one reverso, i would suggest to go to try MUT. it is a round shape watch which may give a big of change.

in my opinion, MUT is a classic which houses with the very elegant and landmark movement of JLC. if you are very taken by the MUT. you can consider it again.

my friend also has Squardra HT, it is also a very nice watch and uses the movement as the one in MHT. if i guess it correctly, your wrist is bigger than mine, then you should try the new MUT model which is a bigger watch in size.

for me, my wrist is small, and i especially the arabic numerals on the dial, then i went for old MUT model.

just my 2C thoughts.

I am ok with the dimesions of this watch. It has a very slim bezel an d because it it a dress watch, I am not put off by the smaller size. I actually prefer the aesthetics of the 34mm over the newer, more contemporary sized MUT's.

My wrist size isn't so big that I can't do the 34mm MUT.

Hi David,

If you already own a Reverso Squadra I think a classic Reverso would be a perfect addition to you collection.

But be aware. I found that the Grande Taille size looks nice at first sight, but after trying a Grande Reverso size I didn't want to go back. I'm afraid that you won't be satisfied with Grande Taille size knowing you have a Squadra already.

I am glad you posted this so I may see the comparison in size between the Reverso GT case and the MUT. Very instructive, as well as nice to look at.  All three are beautiful.  No matter how I try, I cannot stop adding to my JLC collection and dreaming of adding to it...
