Nobody might care with all the news coming out today at the SIHH, but I thought that I might share a good surprise I had today with you all.
I was walking down the street last Thursday and glanced into the window of a local JLC AD and I saw a Memovox Tribute to Polaris. At first I couldn't believe it and kind of just walked on. I ended up at another dealer purchasing an IWC Big Ingenieur (I was looking for a watch that day).
Anyways I was still bothered by what I saw, but as far as I was concerned (and had repetedly been told) all the Polaris's had been sold out.
The thought of the watch kind of bugged me all weekend.
Today I went back for a look. I entered the shop and asked to see the Polaris in the window and was told by the vendor that I was mistaken. However, after taking the watch out of the window the young lady apologized and confirmed that it was a limited edition Tribute to Polaris.
I haggled at little and I am now the very proud owner of a Polaris.
How is that for a story?
My feeling is now that miracles do happen.

George
Basically I negotiated a slightly cheaper price.

Guys I fully realize how lucky I am.
As I explained it was kind of a dream.
Fully aware of how lucky I was I didn't hesitate to purchase the beast.

George
Hi George,
wellcome in one of smallest owner's club! is it a '68 or '65 version?
I bought my Polaris just one day before Xmas; one week before, I had tought that could be impssible!
may you send us pix of yours? cheers. olivier
I am very pleased for you .
However it highlights a problems I have with some sales staff. 3 months ago I popped into the JLC boutique here in London , and got a very curt 'Its completely sold out, and there is a long list of names on the reserve list' . Just goes to show how much they know .
Incidently , he was wearing a prototype but refused to let me look at it, the whole experience left my cold.
But congratulations on your great fortune Grigo , wear it in good health.
James.
It's the 68 in stainless steal. With only 65 pieces of the 65 having been manufactured the guy who finds a brandnew one in a shop today is really really lucky.
Can't take pictures of the watch for the time being because it's still wrapped up to be given to me a birthday gift. Can take pictures of the packadge though, would give you a gould indication of who the AD was in Paris.

George

dear george,
if you're talkin about the '68 edition, in stainless steel, edited in 768.
'65 edition speciale in stainless steel (only in Paris) is only edited in '65
'65 limited edition in platinum is edited in '165.
cheers. olivier
Olivier,
Love the confussion around the number of watches manufactured for this limited edition. As far as I was aware there were 65 platinum models manufactured for the 65 series and 768 stainless steel models for the 68 series. I was not aware that 65 stainless steel models had been manufactured for the 65 series.
Can anyone confirm this.
See below the link on which I got my information.

George

Yes, I know this information, but it was early than the correct plan of production.
These informations (below) were confirmed by Sir Nicolas himself:
768 numbers in stainless steel for the '68 version (huge indexes)
65 numbers in stainless steel for the '65 version (metal indexes)
165 numbers in platinium for the '65 version (metal indexes)
cheers. olivier
.......Hi George,
I think you made a really good deal George, but what about this! In 2001; I had just bought a Polaris in a pretty bad state and took it to the lokal JLC dealer in Oslo for a quote to have it repaired. The owner of the dealership was very suprised to see the watch and he said it had not been any success for his dealership. Reciveing only a few watches from JLC he had not been able to sell them all. The one I brought in, was one of them he had been able to sell. He quoted me a good price for the repair job, but then, when I accepted the repair quote, his comment was : " Would you be interested to by a new one?" I asked him what he meant, and he said that he still had one of the original Polaris wathes for sale and since I was a good customer the price would be the same as in 1965. Of course I bought it and I will never, ever depart with it !
Best regards
Sverre

Now that is what I call a really, really good story.
I am very glad for you. Wear in good health.

George
