Hello everyone!

My Name is Johannes and I am new to this forum. Up until now I own a Stowa Flieger Original L.E., a Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Automatique and two marine chronometers.

For my bar exam next year I was planning to get one of my dream watches (the other being the unaffordable Lange Datograph): the Reverso Grande Date. Just recently I have discovered the GMT and now I cannot decide between the two. At first sight, the face of the GMT looks a little unbalanced as the power reserve at 10:30 and the "2" is missing. On the other hand, the GMT comes with extra and useful complications and a second face. What a great idea for the reverso concept!

How would decide? Has anyone been through the same decision?

if you travel often=Grande GMT
if you prefer a simpler piece=Grand Date

i dont travel often to different timezones so i have Grande Date and love it... i also prefer having movement view versus 2 time views

I see what you mean.

I'd say that with the Grande Date or the Grande GMT, you won't be wrong!

Personnaly, I'd go on the Grande Date...

I love the simplicity of the dial, a bit understated.

The Grande GMT has a friendly complication which sings a lot to me, too.

So, the solution is to try them both in the real world.

If you can live with the ( bit ) more busier dial of the GMT, go on it.

If not, the Grande Date is for you.

You really have to try both of them , and you will see, the choice will be easier.

If you are planning to travel across timezone frequently then the GMT all the way. I chose that model as I am traveling one week a month usually with stopovers in at least three timezones. If I didn't travel I would go for the date.

... guys! I will not be doing a great deal of travelling so that rules out arguments in that direction.

I guess I'll just try on the GMT and then I'll know (hopefully). But I must say that the extra GMT complication is quite appealing...

I originally owned a Grande Date but sold it and bought a Grande GMT. I travel quite a lot across time zones and find this an easy watch to travel with. I also like the fact that I can wear the watch with either the silver more formal "front" dial or the black more casual "back" dial. It means I have two watches in one. As an alternative you should also look at the Reverso Duo which is in a smaller slimmer case and also the Squadra GMT which is in a much bigger case, just so you get a good sense of what works best for you on the wrist.

I like the GMT  "compliaction"/ 2 watches in one deal and the size of the watch...I dont travel as much as I use to but still have ties in Aisa and Italiy thus the GMT function works for me when I need to call ....of course... I ordered the one with s.s bracelet! To me it is MY " jewellery " . I want the RG GMT to "drape" across my wrist and the JLC bracelet looks just the perfect bracelet for me

By the way: the Squadra don't feature unique movements, do they?

Have you considered looking at the Reverso Sun Moon?

Either watch you get will be a fantastic watch. However, one minor detail that erks me is the two date digits on different planes (which is why you see a split date window). I know it is a necessity if you want a big date function within a compact space but it would just bug me.

The Sun Moon, while less practical than either is just so stunning and has the same movement as the others.

But either way you choose, you are purchasing a lovely timepiece. Congratulations!

Thanks for your input! But I really do want the big date funtion! Nonetheless, the SunMoon is a stunning watch as well.

A couple of hours ago I visited an AD. Unfortunately, the GMT was only available in RG. Still I realized that the face of the GMT is beautiful, too. I didn't like the black face side, though - I would never wear this side up. And I don't do a lot of travelling, either. So i guess I'll go for the Big Date and save the difference for my next JLC or ML.

And look at this one...The Geographique....a limited edition only.

I do enjoy the back side of the GMT as I travel a fair bit, but like looking at the Grande Date movement too.
Lume is moderately good - actually I only discovered it after about a year of ownership.





The Grande Date has the useful complication - Power Reserve on the front, where you want it.
The Grande GMT has it on the back, where you never see it.
Ah spoit for choice.

I bought the Grande Date, swapped up for the GMT, and would happily go back.
Or stay - either way it's a great watch

Well... to be honest with you...From your pic... I am disappointed with the sharpness and clarity of the lume!!!! Boy... at this level and this amount of $$ shouldnt the lume be as good/ as bright and as sharp ??
