I totally agree but on pieces like this that have been discontinued the only way to acquire one is through an AD that takes in pre-owned pieces...and I get the feeling that someone really loved this piece. And I want it to have a good home...mine!
As long as the caseback won't decidedly reduce the value of the watch, (even pre-owned it's pricey), I think it will make it's way to me. I'm just looking down the road for a trade-up to another piece, (which may or may never happen), I know you understand. Thanks so much, any further thoughts from you are most appreciated. Caseback wear and tear
Hi everyone, as always I hope everyone is happy and looking forward to
a wonderful weekend. I'm writing once again concerning the
platinum RDM Reverso.
My AD has one that is pristine in every way, except that when looking at the caseback, (the part that sits on your wrist), the REVERSO and serial number engravings are not as deep as they were when the watch was new...you can still read them but it's obvious that this particular piece has been worn quite a bit, but treated with kid-gloves as well if the condition of the case is any indicator.
My question is whether this is normal, whether this is something to worry about, and whether Jaeger can re-engrave the caseback. Also, is the case-housing platinum as well, or would it possibly be made of stainless steel? Any information ya'll can supply is most appreciated.
Oh, and when not wearing the Reverso from day to day, is it ok to leave it sitting on it's side, (deployment buckle prevents it from laying flat), or should it be upright in a watch box? Is on it's side all right for the movement? Again, thank you, speak soon. Best.

If the numbers are not that deep,
It is because maybe the watch has been polished some times, already...
JLC won't replace the back of a Reverso, except the Verso side, which is not the case here...
As for stocking your watch, the best and the safer is a box, of course.

Thanks much Nicolas for getting back to me concerning the case wear and tear...your answer that perhaps the caseback has been poliched has put me at ease, and also raised another question. Is polishing a watch a bad thing? I hear from people on Rolex forums that they never, ever polish a watch as it takes away from the value. Does polishing take off a substantial layer of metal, and will it effect the resale of the watch? The case itself is perfect. I don't ever plan to sell the watch, but if I were to ever want to trade-up for a Reverso Perpetual I'm hopeful that the RDM will retain a good bit of its value. Well, a brand new is always better than an used and polished watch.
It won't affect your love for the piece, and if it does, don't go on it.
