And that this Polaris is a winner...
If you refer on the IWC 140th anniversary, I agree with you that some of the 6 are simply stunning, too.
But the Pola is a legend, a true piece of legend and history.
Me...BIASED???? NOOOOOO!
LOl
Best, my friend.
now that I have a serious contender in the fine art in taking pics...
LOL
Best.

Yep, I'm a Happy Man...
Fantastic Job JLC did on this Polaris.
Can't put in words the feeling I had when putting these re editions on my wrist...
Difficult to say...
But indeed a fantastic experience.
Hope you will see them soon in the flesh!
Best, my friend.
Nicolas
photos of such a stunning piece. That domed plexi is simply divine.
Hmm, would it be considered shilling if I offered my kidneys (LNIB) and/or liver (seen more moderate use, conservatively estimated 90 %) up for sale?
Thanks again
Jon
But I think you won'"t need to sell them to get one of these...
Good one, my friend!
Best.

Nicolas, now that the Polaris remake has been widly acclaimed
it is time for the critics!
While the 1968 reedition has been done fine (apart from the use
af an aged lookalike yellow luminous mass) the 1965 seems to
be flawed in front of its historical background. As far as I know no
Memovox with a JLC dial had Alarm and/or Calendar written on the
dial. That was reserved for the American market LeCoultre models.
And no Polaris with a JLC dial had Alarm and Calendar written on
that very part! Even the photos provided by JLC as used in your
review and on the JLC site show the JLC Polaris just with Auto-
matic written above the 6. Only some LeCoultres ones came with
Automatic-Alarm-Calendar. So it is not some kind of incoherent use
of words on the dials of the vintage models, it is a serious flaw on the
one of the 1965 reedition!
Also I do not understand why the luminous dots around the alarm-
disk have to be black in the reedition. Does Magalie want to fake a
vintage look by this, as the vintage dots tend to become black over
the years?
That is just my point of view, but I am sure more learned collectors
of vintage Memovoxes will come up with theirs. Come on Clavi and Ilja,
do not let me stand in the rain alone!
Christian Grouchy
Hi Christian,
since you asked for my opinion I gonna share it.
I don't like re-editions to begin with.
This sort of products should be limited to brands like Heuer, Omega etc.
From an accounting point of view understandable but for a die-hard collector
like me a "no-go".
Actually I'm happy to have sold my *original* Polaris since I couldn't stand
people asking me if it is original or re-edition. :p
My European Deep Sea Alarm is my favorite anyway.
I have to admit they did a quite good job. But I need to see the caseback design
in detail. I don't see any reason to do it snap back when the used movement is a full
rotor. A screw back design like the so called Polaris II would have done a much better job.
The much too large date window is awful, but hopefully changed for the final edition.
Last but not least I'm happy JLC didn't use the "Italian market" sort of hands...
Btw. funny to read how the Manufactur tries to support their own "urban legend" about
these hands.
Cheers - Ilja
PS: I really like your style Christian!
Wow, first post in 4 years, that has been a long time (I remember the story behind your last post though)
Times and people have changed, so I'm pleased to read you here again (although there aren't many collectors around to exchange much on vintage here).
Regarding the Polaris, I pretty much share your opinion.
Nicely done, but not really for us...
I'll probably get to see it in the flesh tonight.
And I'll probably wear that for the occasion (might ring a bell to you
)
Kind regards,
Clavi
