Dear fellow classical JLC lovers,

Jaeger-LeCoultre has expanded its range to sport watches (Compressor models) and high complications (Grande Complication a Triptyque for instance).

It must not make us forget that JLC is still the maker of some of the most elegant simple watches on the market.

I’m glad to share with you a rare bird, the Boutique Edition Master Hometime in white gold with a black dial that recalls us the glorious days of the Master Black series.

The back is marked “Special edition”.

Production is supposedly around 50 pieces. AFAIK it is not formally limited.

As the name states, it is available only from JLC boutiques.

This watch is also available in steel and pink gold but with ruthenium dial.

I have the SS Hometime but this LE  black dial version looks a lot more interesting at this juncture of my ownership.

I suppose they want people to get there and buy watches, so they create traffic through specific pieces.

I don’t remember well. Is that push or pull marketing? Pull I guess!

Actually it happened to me a few times last fall.

With a square pink gold monopusher Cartier chronograph first, and then with the stainless steel ruthenium dial Hometime a bit later.

So yes you can dream….

But keep your eyes frequently open when you look at Ads :-)

I have the plain old steel version of this watch, and "plain" is the operative word. It's a highly functional watch but seems to lack sophisticaton and detail in the dial design. It feels a bit of a "Plain Jane". The wg/black dial looks better but when you get to this level of pricing I wonder whether it's enough. Granted selling only 50 should be a snap, but when I look at my older Blancpain Timezone in wg the wach just seems more sophisticated and worthy of the price tag.

Am I being unfair or is their an element of accord on this one?

I don’t think you’re unfair but that’s a matter of taste IMO.

My taste is not for sophistication but more for simple beauties. I don’t mean that it’s better but just that I happen to prefer.

In fact I used to love Blancpain watches a long time ago, when they just had the simple original round models of the comeback. That was around 15 to 20 years ago.

Then they launched the 2100 series and my appeal for these watches just disappeared. I know they obviously still make beauties, but not to the original level, again for my taste.

It all comes down to personal liking, but I like black/ grey dials. This is a beauty and appeals much more to me than the standard watch with the silver dial. One could argue that the face would be looking even better with white date numericals and an all black background.

… instead of a show one. Black numerals on a white background are easier to find on the dial, but when that’s your watch it’s not necessary you can have white numerals on black background

It’s quite rare though, I just remember of some Zenith models with this design and I always found it quite elegant.
